Nap Nanny/Reflux/Self Soothing?

Hi all. I have a 12 week who has awful reflux.
We are changing the dose of her medication today to see if it helps.
I am interested in the Nap Nanny, but before I spend the money, I wanted to know if anyone had any luck with it? I have tried the car seat - which she hates, and she slumps in the swing and bouncy seat, so they are not working for us. She sleeps so little all day and all night - poor thing.
HOW can I teach her to self soothe when she is so uncomfortable? She sleeps 40 min at a time at the MOST. My husband and I take turns all night letting her sleep on our chests. She has to be upright. Elevating her crib does not work because she just slides down. She is also having trouble sleeping because she does not know how to sleep on her own. I don't know how to do that with the reflux?
I think I have been away for 12 weeks straight! I need some relief and my daughter HAS to get some sleep some how.
On top of all this I pump 5 times a daty to give her breastmilk - she fusses so much at the breast as I have an over-abundant supply with a very forceful let down - and she cannot eat laying down, so she gets expressed milk.
Any advice?

What can I do next?

Oh you must be so tired! I can't speak to the reflux issues, but what have you tried for the milk supply issue? Kellymom has some suggestions for adjusting supply and for upright positions that help the baby deal with it. http://www.kellymom.com/bf/supply/fast-letdown.html. You also might want to call a La Leche League Leader for help with that. One of these groups is probably closest to you http://www.llleus.org/web/ArlingtonCambridgeMa.html or http://www.llleus.org/web/WalthamMa.html.

If its reflux I suggest that you add a little sea salt to her bottles, or you can take it and she will get it in the breast milk if you nurse. It sounds crazy, but my daughter suffered from acid reflux beginning at 2 weeks...I took her to Dr. Chalmers in Frisco, TX and this was his solution. It worked within 24 hours. She has not had additional issues since. The sea salt you use makes a difference...I use the salt I got at Dr. Chalmers...Premier Pink Salt. I've found it online, too.

Oh, I really feel for you! I know what you're going through. My babies had reflux too. They slept best in the swing. If memory serves, I think we had to use rolled up receiving blankets to support them a little. You could try the head support accessories that are for carseats, like this one:

They slept really well in the bouncy seat too. Is your bouncy seat one of the deep ones? Some of them seem to work better with bigger babies. We had one like this that supported baby. Check out the reviews. One mama used it for her twin premies.

I'm not sure about the nap nanny- I never had one, but it was recalled last summer. They may have fixed the problem by now, but wanted to make you aware of it

Hope this helps, and you and your baby are able to get some much needed sleep soon! :)

When my daughter had reflux we tried bouncy seats etc but I was never a fan of letting them sleep in those. I tried to elevate her crib but like your she just wiggled her way down. So my friend rolled a blanket up and shaped it like a U under her crib sheet to "cup" her bum so she stayed in place. It worked really well. She also slept in her boppy for naps downstairs. Good luck!!

When my 3 month old was hospitalized, the nurses showed me how to make a "nest" for him to keep him from sliding down in an elevated bed. They took a big blanket, rolled it up, and shaped it into a U right below his tush. Another (hospital receiving) blanket was placed over that and used as a bottom sheet beneath him. It works like a charm. I'm not familiar with the Nap Nanny.

I will say that, even though my MSPI/relflux baby does sleep well at night, he has NOT really learned the art of self-soothing. During the day, he spends a lot of time in the Moby wrap, upright, strapped to my chest. "Up" is his only pain-free option.

Also, you can google around for alternative bf'ing positions. There are quite a few creative techniques out there!

Ultimate aloe is by far the best thing for this. I wish I discovered it earlier. My first son spent the first 4 months of his life sleeping in his swing. All 3 of my boys had reflux and they were all on zantac. I put them on aloe and they have never had it since. It also boosts their immune systems so they don't get sick.

I know many of who have used the nap nanny and loved it. My niece still has it out for my 16 mos old great-niece to sit and lounge in before bed. She sits in it to drink her bedtime milk or when she is particularly sleepy, she will pull it out all on her own. It IS her sleepy-soothy chair!

I do home childcare and had one with eating and mild reflux and sleeping issues. At my house, early on, my best friend and little mans was my Moby Wrap...Once he did drink and ounce or 2 (all I could get in him), he wouldn't sleep (of course laying down hurt and technically as per licensing rules, we can not allow infants to sleep ANYWHERE but in a crib ...no seats/bouncys, etc), due to SIDS training, etc. But in the Moby wrap he was technically in my arms and the only only way I could get him to sleep an hour or 2 even. It was a lifesaver for a good hour or 2 of sleeping for a few months until things improved inside him (he drinks breastmilk I bottle feed too, BTW)

Good luck and I hope you both can get some well deserved rest!

Have you cut out all offending foods from your diet? This is essential with a sensitive baby. Most babies have some level of reflux when they are little, it goes away as they get older naturally. My daughter and son are just like this, I can relate! They can not self soothe at this age, they need you! I also have over active letdown. Honestly the baby needs to get used to nursing on the breast, she will figure out how to regulate the flow. Let her nurse as much as she wants! Put her in a sling, propped straight sitting up, and let her nurse like that. It will take some practice, but this is the BEST solution I found to colicky babies. Wear her like this, and nurse often. Also, when you are about to have a letdown, pull the baby off the breast for a few seconds to minimize the flow( after regularly nursing, she will figure this out on her own). Also supplement with baby probiotics for the digestive issues for her, she may have yeast issues as well. Also, check out mothering.com forums, askdrsears.com and kellymom.com for more ideas. It WILL get better with time, but absolutely she needs to learn how to nurse off the breast. Nursing often and wearing in sling are essential for babies like this. I know, I've been there with two babies!
