My son has a little bit of reflux and his pediatrician recommended 1 ml of Mylanta. Has anyone ever heard of this? The poor thing doesn't spit up often, especially if we're careful, but sometimes, when he does, it is horrible how much he spits up. It doesn't bother him and he actually smiles sometimes afterwords, but, for example, today he spat up big time twice and it has me a bit worried. Thanks for any input!
I did not have to use Mylanta thanks to the responses I received. He seems to be a happy spitter upper and isn't in any pain, thankfully! Thanks so much to everyone who responded!
Personally, I'm not keen on putting chemicals in anyone's body but particularly not children's bodies. I'm guessing it is "safe" by their standards of what is safe.
My doctor also advised the same for my son when he was 3 or 4 months, I thought he was too young to be taking such a medicine, lucky I didn't give it to him because he stopped doing it the following month when his immature sphincter between the esophagus and stomach had developed, my mum told me the same thing happened to me when I was a baby and I was never given medication and I am just fine.. I don't recommend the medicine unless it's a major problem... doctors routinely give out medicine for no reason other than to keep you happy!!!

I know exactly what u are going through because I had the same issues aroud the smae time. I too was told to add a little cereal to his milk the problem was he was not drinking milk from a bottle and he was not taking formula. When u try to mix formula with breast milk it breaks it down more than it thickens it. Needless to say that did not work.
What I will recommend is a GER specialist for ur baby b4 ur pediarician decides to treat ur baby himself. My baby went through xrays (my worst nightmare) which did not work because unless the reflux is happening at that time it does not make any sense. Stay away from reglan also, thats another bad thing my pediatrion gave my baby. I eventually got my pediatrician to give me a referal for a specialist and everything the dr. did he was against. I was until i started to see the specilaist did my baby start to get some relief. My baby was not having bowel movement fro up to 7days (thank God that has changed). So I highly recommend a specialist, and i must say that now my baby is 13 mths and very healthy, believe me when I say this too shall past. All the best.

I've used Mylicon, which is the baby version. I've never heard of using the regular Mylanta though. Maybe that is what your doctor was referring to. It comes with a little dropper and is in the baby aisle.

perfectly safe for newborns to adults
HOWEVER, nothing will help stop the spit up!

I would not medicate if there is no pain

My son was 2 months also when i had to give him mylanta...... I also gave him 1ml.. Its safe at first I was looking for children's mylanta but the dr meant reg mylanta...... buy the cherry flavor.......
Hello, I wanted to say my little one spit up to. When she spit up it was like a water fall. She would drench me so bad I would have to change my clothes. Anyway if you feel ok with given your baby the meds then do it. If not look for another opinon. You could try burping more. Have him drink 1oz burp or drink 2 oz then burp. If your nursing try the timer. feed for 2 min then burp. I tired different things and it worked for me. I just cut back on how long I feed her. Good Luck.
