My Son Will Not Got Out of His Bed on His Own

I'm not sure if this is a good thing or not, but my son who is 2 1/2 will just lay in bed after he wakes up. I have talked to my son over and over that it is OK that when he wakes up to come get mommy or play with his toys. I usually set my alarm at 10 am on days that he doesn't have to go to school because he won't wake me up. If I know that he is awake I usually call him into my room so that he gets out of bed on his own or i stand ouside of his bedroom door and ask him to come out. Is this normal or just a phase. He's been a toddler bed since December. He never climbed out of his crib. Any advice moms?

I would be jumping for joy, he knows that the bed is for sleeping and not for playing. I get my 3 1/2 year old standing over me when he gets up, which is rare. Man will that scare the POO out of you.

Thank your lucky stars! I'm betting it's just his personality. He could be waking you up at 6:00 a.m. like my 7 yo! :-)

He knows how to find you, he can walk, he is not sick, he will get out when he needs you, believe me. Let him enjoy his sleep and time alone.

Be happy. He could just be enjoying some quite alone time. My oldest daughter used to do that when she was a toddler. She said that she liked to listen to the house and all the sounds that she heard outside. She liked to try and figure out what they were, so she would just lay there and listen. When she got bored or tired of laying there she would get up and find me. So while she was enjoying her quiet time I enjoyed mine!!

He'll eventually start coming out. My twins just turned 3 in May and have been in a toddler bed since 2.5. For the longest time they didn't come out on their own, then one has started to get up on his own now. The other one still doesn't so I leave the monitor on and can hear movement or little chatter when he wakes up. I have told him he can come out but he still doesn't. I say it's better than having them come out too much!

My son has always done this and still does. I LOVE IT! Would not have it any other way!
My neice & nephew would destroy my sister's home when she slept in. She would wake up to eggs thrown everywhere, wet pancake mix meared on walls, toliet paper running down the halls, broken glass, chocolate milk spilled in the computer, sour cream hair do's, kids running around naked covered in jelly at 4am...
Makes them staying in bed seem awesome!

My son is 3 and still does not get out of bed on his own, which I've come to the conclusion that it's a good thing. I do have a new baby, and there's been times when I've told him the night before that it's ok if he wakes up to go turn on his shows. He sometimes will listen, other times not. We finally got some two way monitors. It allows us to hear him when he's calling for us, and if I'm busy with baby or something I can just use the monitor to tell him it's ok if he gets up, or if it's too early I'll see he needs to try to sleep a little more. The two way monitors were kind of hard to find, I finally found mine on craigslist. I believe the one I have is an Evenflo Whisper Two Way Connect.

I'd be thankful that he's not a runner, getting into everything, lol. I think it's fine. Let him be. Just set your alarm and call him to come when the alarm goes off so he'll get used to coming down the hall on his own. He'll eventually get up on his own and then watch out when he gets comfortable with that, lol. I'd just enjoy the peaceful mornings while you can.

I actually think it's pretty normal (or at least I'd like to think so since mine all did it!). I think they're so used to being in a crib where they need you to come and get them that at first it doesn't even occur to them to come out on their own. Even after that, they're so used to it that it doesn't bother them to have that time on their own.

Whoa! I would be so flippin happy! Seriously, he'll figure it out soon... my daughter would do that as well when she first transitioned, but it didn't last long. Even as a baby she loved playing in her crib....sometimes she wouldn't make a sound in there until 9 or so, and I would peek in on her and she'd be playing away. (we left a stack of books within reaching distance) Anyway, believe me, he'll get it all figured out.

Enjoy it. Both of my kids never climbed out of their crib or got out of their toddler bed until I went into their room and said it was okay. I never did figure it out since most of my mom friends had horror stores of their kids getting up and getting into everything imagineable.
