I am on doxycycline for 10 days and went to the beach at the lake for a few hours today. I was under the umbrella for most of the time but now i my arms and legs are all tingly and when i took a shower the water felt like it was burning me. I then realized this almost feels like sunburn with extra painful tingling ( i so rarely sunburn). That was my aha moment...oh, supposed to stay out of the sun.

I am not red at all, was wearing a tshirt and shorts, but even my back feels itchy and burned. Any advice on how to make this go away faster? I've totally learned my lesson!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks everyone....just sent my husband to get vinegar (of course used all mine up yesterday) and aloe Vera. And thanks about the reflecting off water advice...I had no idea. And I am not taking any chances for the last 5 days on the meds.

I am on it for sinus infection and bronchitis that would not go away...after 9 days I made my way to urgent care. I felt so much better today and was so excited to get outside...

Get a large bowl and put about a half cup of vinegar in it and the rest luke warm water. Soak a wash cloth in it, wring it out so it isnt sloppy wet, and apply it to your skin. Vinegar takes the sting out and the aroma is very temporary.

EEEEK . . . doxycycline and the sun. Not a good combo. I love aloe vera. Good luck and hope you feel better soon.

ouch!!! yeah - most antibiotics don't react well to sun...I'm sorry!!! If you have (or had) pneumonia - did the doctor want you stressing your system like that by being at the beach/lake???? Take it easy, girl! You don't want your stuff to come back!!

Take a benadryl for the itch.

Aloe Vera for the "burn"

A vinegar bath is good too...here is a link to several remedies!!

I'm on the same stuff at the moment and I've already forgotten twice that I'm not supposed to have dairy products for 2 hours before or after taking it. Oops!

Also... a lot of people don't realize that the sun's rays reflect off the water, so you can STILL get a sunburn under an umbrella!

Sorry to hear you got burned......

This happened to my son with doxycycline and we learned the hard way that even sunscreen doesn't really prevent it. It did take awhile to clear up. Although it is on the warnings that this could happen it doesn't happen to everyone and different people have different levels of reaction. My son's was also pretty signigicant. Be sure to tell your doctor what happened so that they can clearly mark your chart. I think they are going to try to avoid giving my son doxycycline in the future if possible.
