My Ovaries Are Killing Me

I recently weaned my 16 month old son, and about two weeks ago had my first full blown post-baby period, which was heavy. I knew that was to be expected, but today I woke up and had the most intense cramping and pain in my lower abdomen, like where my ovaries are. The right side hurt worse than the left, but overall, it was a horrible experience. I was just wondering if anyone else had experienced this, if it was normal, or if I should be calling my doctor. Thanks!

What can I do next?

Sounds like you could have an ovarian cyst . Please see your Doctor ASAP . I had symptoms similar that I ignored , and ended up with ovarian cancer . Most cysts are harmless and will go away , as I thought mine had after the symptoms subsided , but I was wrong and it turned into cancer . It's best not to take chances . Please see your Dr.....Bo

Are you on birth control? We often forget what a traumatice experience pregnancy, labor, delivery and breastfeeding are on our bodys. It takes much longer than we want to afford ourselves to feel "normal". The periods are enough to make you think you might die.
Also, you need to realize that your body has changed, and things may feel and work differently than they did BC (before child).
If the pain continues, seek professional advice, but I think it's just your body moving into another stage.
Best Wishes!

I agree with the previous poster, you could be just starting to ovulate again, or it could be an ovarian cyst. I have had several ovarian cysts that have ruptured, for me, it was a horrible, painful sensation. When I was seen for it, the doctors thought I had appendicitis at first, but finally diagnosed it correctly. I would definitely check with your doctor for this. Good luck!

You may be ovulating. I have had those intense pains when I have ovulated. I questioned my doctor and they jsut told me that is probably what it is. However, I do have PCOS -Polycystic Ovary Syndrome. So, if it gets any worse and won't stop or you feel really sick and faint it could be a ovary cyst that has burst. That is not fun at all!!! But with a cyst that ruptures the pain lessens a little but is still there for a day or two- at least taht is how mine happened. But, again, it could just be that you are ovulating and it's more intense since you just started having your periods again. If your not sure I would at least check with your doctor/nurse. Good luck!
