Hello ladies, any advise I get would be great?
I have a 8 mo baby boy whose been breastfed. He's been at daycare since he was 4 mo old and suddenly he started refusing his bottle. I'm worried about my baby not getting enough liquids during the day. He only drinks breastmilk. Tried juice and water and he rejected it. He loves his babyfood but he's having trouble with bowel movements, his stool is hard which is pretty much a sign he's not getting enough liquids. I work full time so I pump during the day. My husband usually picks him up from daycare about 4 pm and I don't get home til about 6:30 pm. At that time I nurse him. He also nurses several times thoughout the night. I just tried using sippy cup, but he's not sure what to do with it yet. My provider tried giving bottle first before solid foods, but he just plays with the nipple and will only take a few sips.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to what to do?

What can I do next?

I ran a daycare out of my house for 9 years and have came across this problem a few times. Maybe the bottle isn't being warmed up enough. I know most babies don't like cold milk. I watched a little girl who wouldn't take a bottle at all. Finally, when the other kids were asleep, I warmed it up, sat in a darkened, quiet room and rocked her while trying to feed her. That worked for me a few times.
Maybe your baby doesn't like being fed from other people. Try giving her a bottle at night and have your husband feed her.
Hope this helps you!

Hi there, possibly he's teething and the sucking could be painful for him. I run my own in home daycare and one of my moms was breastfeeding and I was experiencing him not wanting his bottle. come to find out the milk was spoiled/bad. So we had to replace it with formula provided by the mom and it worked perfectly.
Hope this helps.

Hi, I have been doing daycare for babies for 20+ years. I have always started weaning about 10 months to a cup. Your little one sounds a little young, but any way to get them to drink the breast milk is worth trying. You might have to try a number of different sippy tops. Some are harder to drink from than others. By the time they are one year old they should be completely off the bottles anyway for the sake of their teeth. The spill proof ones will be harder to drink from than just a cup with a lid. It takes patients from your provider to do this. Good luck. C.

You could try a regular cup and let him lap it up. Or Medela even makes a soft sided cup that is designed for babies that cannot breastfeed or need some supplimentation. Could he have some breast milk mixed in with his baby food to dilute it a litte bit? Also if this is brand new (like only a day or two), is there something like an ear infection, a sore in his mouth, teething etc.. that is causing him to dislike the bottle? Also the more he nurses in the evening, morning and at night the better. Stick it out and it will probably get better.

Hi Y.,
Could he be teething? Try going up a size in nipple so he doesn't have to try as hard or maybe a sippy cup. As for the hard stool, make sure he is eating things like carrots, pears and blueberries as it helps soften stool. My daughter has the same problem with hard stool and we make sure not to feed her many bananas, rice cereal or crackers.

I use Breast flow bottles from BabiesRus. They work like the breast does and I swear by them, they let down like a breast and work well for my breast fed baby. Good Luck
