My 9 Month Doesn't "Move"

Hi. I am beginning to get a little worried because our 9 month old daughter really has no desire to move. I am not sure if it is lack of desire or lack of ability. She sits up fine, but cannot get to a sitting position from lying, and she does not pull up to stand. She does stand fine if she holds onto something. She also has never made any attempt to crawl. We'll ask the pediatrician at her 9 month visit, but I was wondering if anyone else had this experience. Thanks.

What can I do next?

Hi. All babies develop at different rates. My daughter never crawled. She not got up on her knees from her belly. She would lie on her belly, arms straight out in front of her and her legs straight behind her and pull herself along the floor, but rarely. My daughter didn't even do this until she was about 10 months old. 5 days before she turned 1 she was standing holding onto the couch and she just let go and walked. She never crawled. Even to this day, she is not a great crawler and she is 3! But she is healthy and extrememly active! So relax and just enjoy your baby. Keep encouraging her by playing on the floor with her. Most likely she is fine and will move when she wants. But definitely ask the ped. at her next appointment. Take care.

PS I know it can be a little disappointing when you see other people's kids crawling and creeping along and yours just sits there. I've been there. My daughter also never really cared to roll over at the age that most babies do. My son, who is 6 months, is the complete opposite of my daughter. He won't sit still! Go figure!

My first daughter was late to crawl, and she is just fine and healthy now at age two. She didn't even push up to a crawling position until 10 months. Every child develops differently, so try not to compare your baby to others. My daughter crawled and walked later than lots of my friends' kids, but her verbal skills were advanced. I also have a 9-month-old daughter. She just started crawling a few weeks ago and started getting into a sitting position from lying a few days ago. She does not pull up to stand yet, but can stand with help. Definitely ask your pediatrician at her visit, but try not to worry, as this can be very normal!

a lot of kids skip crawling altogether and start walking. if you want to get her interested in moving, then put favorite toys away from her a few times a day, so she can see them and eventually she will start moving toeards them, whether crawling or finally standing up and walking. do not worry, children develop at different rates. i do know though that lots of tummy time also get things going.
good luck
