My 7 year old is having panic attacks at school and when he does he will grab at other kids in fear. He is currently seeing a therapist and I am told to keep sending him to school but what do I do about him "grabbing" others out of fear? He scratched a kid today.

What can I do next?

Ask the teacher if she has suggestions, and they school counselor. They may have dealt with this in some way before. Your therapist should be giving some ideas - I don't know why they haven't. He needs an appropriate safety tool to help him cope. Perhaps the teacher has something he can hold on to through the day that is just for school.

I'm really sorry you and your son are dealing with this. Is there any sort of pattern as to when he has these attacks? Maybe there can be something else for him to grab onto (stress ball or something)? I would definitely let the therapist know what is going on and ask for advice.

I would call the school psychologist and request to have a team meeting to discuss a behavior plan. Your son might qualify for a 504 Plan or PPT and IEP if he has Anxiety Disorder.
