We are seeing an infectious disease doctor and it was caught early and my son has just finished antibiotics. Now it seems that he has the flu he has had it for a week. A couple of nights ago he started vomiting so we took him to the ER. The doctor said that it was just the flu. At the time my 10 month old didnt have a fever. Well starting last night he has had a fever of 38.5 and it hasnt gone away. Today he just seemed really sick and tired. I'm just wondering if he has the fever cause of the flu or the mrsa. No doctors seem to be worried. But I think he should be feeling better by now. I'm waiting for results on the MRSA to see if it is gone or not.

So What Happened?

Thanks everyone. I ended up taking him to the childrens hospital emergency room and it turned out it was a nasty ear infection followed by a nasty flu... He also ended up turning up negative for Mrsa finnally. What a relife to finally know what was wrong. He is now on antibiotics and should hopefully be ok.

Please take your son to his pediatrician soon. A 10 month old with a fever following MRSA should be seen asap.

If you're worried you should pay attention to that. I'd rather be wrong now than right later. I listened to multiple doctors tell me there was nothing wrong with my son's ears. He had an ear infection for so long he now has hearing loss and didn't start talking until he was 2 and a half. If you are alarmed then tell your doc you need better answers because you just aren't comfortable with their diagnosis. Don't question your ability to care for your child. You may be totally wrong and he's perfectly fine but you need to KNOW that you are wrong not hope!

Well K....I think you need to go with your gut feelings. MRSA is such a scary thing, we had 4 rounds of it in my house...it can be really bad...if it turns into sepsis. My doc told me that if my son got a fever and vomited that I was to get him to the ER right away because that was not a good sign...but then again it could be coincidental that he now has the flu. I would really talk with your doctor....so far from my experience with MRSA and different doctors I learnd that they all react differently based on their knowledge of MRSA. So if u are still having second thoughts on what the doc has told you, maybe you should look into a second opinion. Hope everything is ok with your son and he feels better real soon.

You don't say if you are breastfeeding or not but it is very important to have your little getting some form of probiotics. Go to your local health food store, Whole Foods, Sprouts, or Henrys and talk to them about the kind for infants.

Also something else that is very important but I am not sure of what dose for infants is Vitamin D3. They are finding that this could possibly be the most important vitamin for us.

Not a fun time but whatever you do, do NOT get ANY flu shots for him. This would be devastating to his immune system if you do. Let me know if you want sites, books, or other references for this.

A current one with lots of information would be www.mercola.com

Hi K.,

I would be very proactive toward your son's health and get him into the doctor asap, regardless of what they say, and make sure they take you seriously. Don't leave there feeling uneasy. K., go with your gut if you don't think your baby is okay get a second opinion it the your Dr. doesn't seem worried. I had my son in and out of hospitals when he was about 20 months and his pediatrician just kept telling me it was the flu. We went to the ER after that 3 times and he still wasn't any better. He got to the point that he couldn't keep any liquids down and had stopped going potty. I ended talking to my sister in law who recomended a pediatrician in TJ Mexico. My son was in the hospital there for two days and got better right away. I am not suggesting that you take your son out of the the country, unless you know someone, but do what your gut tells you don't wait and find help somewhere else. Find the cause of what is happening to your baby don't just treat the symptoms.
Good Luck and make sure you keep him hydrated.

I would not hesitate and call the infectious disease doctor and ask to be seen immediately. MRSA is not something to mess around with! ER docs are good at the really apparents stuff, but they don't think outside the box and they rarely listen to what you say in my experience. Good luck and I hope your lo is better soon.

I would be concerned that he has mrsa sepsis and you should take him to the ped or ER as soon as possible. If no one is concerned about your baby like you are you should always get a second opinion. mothers always no their babies best. Good luck to you!
