Mommy and Me Italian?

I really want my daughters to learn Italian. I don't think my limited knowledge is sufficient enough to teach them. Does anyone know of any language classes offered where we could share the learning experience, such as other "Mommy and Me" classes? (I live in Carlsbad.)

This sounds perfect for you! According to their website, the classes for the littlest kids are "parent participation" or mommy and me-type. We met some of the teachers at a parenting expo. Seem like nice folks. We hope to do this someday.

Here's their blurb...EarlyBirds offers play-based foreign language immersion classes for children ages 1-10. We create a fun and interactive environment in which children learn through song, movement, games and arts and crafts. EarlyBirds opened its doors in 2004, and we believe our programs will be like no other your child has experienced before. We worked with early childhood development and language acquisition experts to develop a curriculum that is not only fun, but more importantly stimulates the imagination, inspires self-confidence, and encourages language and brain development. Our teachers are native speakers who share our passion for working with children, and they are all trained in our core philosophy of active learning. A., How awesome you want to begin teaching your daughters a second language! I have an at-home preschool and I have had great success with Muzzy Language programs for my children. The website is: www.early-advantage.com
It is very interactive. They have programs for Spanish, Italian, French, German, and Chinese. Whatever you choose, have a great time doing this with your little ones! Peace, B.

In addition to language "classes" or online sites.
I suggest joining a culture club or language club in your area.

I'm sure very town/city has them... in my State alone there are Japansese clubs, Italian, Greek, Filipno, Korean, Chinese, Portuguese, French, Spanish, Hawaiian, Irish, and many more.

My kids are bi-lingual and my family was part of a local culture club here... and they had kids/parents activities too. If anything, it will allow you and your children to be IN a bi-lingual atmosphere and to make friends that way, thus improving your own Italian language/speaking as well.

It's a real good idea, and my kids enjoyed it... and you get to learn about the culture too.

hey- i would love mommy and me classes, too. i know the italian cultural center in little italy (san diego) has begun having classes for moms and 4 year olds. google their website for some info. i am going to email them and ask for a little play group or something. my son is almost 3 and i just bought muzzy, too. he seems to like it ok.

Hi A.,
I'm full 100% Italian myself. I don't know the language much because my Parents never taught it to me. They didn't want us little kids to know what they were talking about lol.

I saw recently on a TV commercial of a CD you can order and learn from. It's called "Rosetta Stone". Go to the website Rosettastone.com

Hope that helps

Ciao!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi A.,

I don't know what your day care situation is, but have you thought about an Italian nanny? My husband and I both work and we have a nanny who speaks Spanish. So our DD is learning Spanish. Our nanny is wonderful and she reads to her in Spanish and talks to her all day long, pointing to things and saying the names over and over. Her last family had three boys who are fluent now. If interested, you could put an ad on Craiglist or there are other nanny websites.
