Mom Seeking Advice!!

My 15 month old son has his check up in two weeks and I am very nervous regarding his MMR-- especially with all of the research linking it with Autism. Any advice or recommendations?

What can I do next?

Wikipedia has a very well-researched article on this subject:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MMR_vaccine_controversy

I've read most of the sources quoted in the article; it also contains the most recent research on the subject. If you have any questions after the article I'd be happy to talk to you. After reading all the research, I went ahead and got my kids vaccinated. I don't think there is a link between the vaccine and autism for the general population and all of the studies I've seen support this conclusion. My sister has also read most of the research on this subject, and she opted for the MMR vaccine but decided to get it separately from any other vaccines (she asked her doctor not give her children polio, influenza, etc on the same day). Most doctors don't have a problem with this type of spread out vaccination schedule.

If you do decide not to vaccinate your son, do make sure you know the early signs of measles, mumps, and rubella since there are occasionally outbreaks in the US now that many parents do opt out of vaccinating their children.

Good luck making your decision, and feel free to send me a message if you'd like to discuss any aspect of the wikipedia article (or studies that are referenced in that article).

There is no research linking the two. There is a reason that we are told to vaccinate our children...it is to keep them and our entire community safe from deadly diseases.

Good luck

I am thinking of delaying the MMR as well. I read the book by Dr. Sears called "The Vaccine Book". It is not biased just spells out the information for you. Good luck!

Although they make me nervous, I do think vaccines are very important. I do not however, get any of the newest ones, because I see them get taken off the market quite a lot. Usually from bad effects..I also get one shot at a time. So the MMR is one with THREE measles, mumps and rubella.- that's all folks. Never do I let them get more than one multi vaccine or 2 single shots with one "germ" each. That's just MY rule. I figure if I am handling the flu for example- does MY body need to fight off polio and mumps at the same time? Doubt it! And then look at the size of our kids- lets get the one at at time and let their little bodies handle it.
That's what makes sense to me after 3 years of biology and 4 years of nursing school and 3 kids...All the best.

We just had my sons 15 month last week. We chose to wait & seperate the shots. He had his chicken pox vaccine & flu shot. I can't imagine having done all of it in one visit. That would have been 5 strains at once. I am only giving you an idea of what I chose. This is a decision you need to make. I actually have had people give negative & positive reactions to my waiting. My feeling is follow you're gut instinct. I still want him vaccinated to prevent disease. As for the link to Autism I feel people want to place blame & they don't know for sure. My Aunt who has 2 children with Autism said to me,even if it is the shots (she doesn't believe it is) the disease and chance of loosing your child is worse than having a child with Autism. The more people stop vaccinating the more we put everyone at risk. Vaccines have saved many lives. Good luck with your decision.
