Missing Girls, Still Missing

I hope they find them alive and well.

The thing is - they are not the only kids missing.

The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children lists many missing children.

Just searching on my state alone (Va) for children missing in the last year comes up with 282 hits.

Sometimes I have to wonder on what criteria some get national news press time while others do not.

Additional:
I never said the coverage should not happen.
I want to know why we don't hear about the others.
The are just as loved and missed by their parents and families and it is totally irrelevant where they live - 'nice' areas have their share of crime, drugs, gangs and sex offenders.

I read about it last night, R.. I've been thinking about this since you started writing.

I do hope that Nancy Grace won't start hounding the family like she did several years ago. Since you know the family, you should consider telling them not to interview with her in case they are invited to. Nancy Grace invited the mother of a toddler who disappeared in the middle of the night to come onto TV and appeal to whoever took the child. Instead, it was a ploy for Nancy to blow her out of the water with accusatory questions. The woman killed herself shortly afterwards. Perhaps the woman did have something to do with the appearance. If so, the secret died with her. With her dead, the authorities lost the opportunity to work that angle and possibly find the girl. If she didn't do it, Nancy sent her over the edge in her grief.

Because of that incident, I cannot stand Nancy Grace and I no longer watch her in anything. (Including Dancing With the Stars). Anyway, I just wanted to bring that up because I feel that it's important.

Thank you for the updates. I have a few friends in Iowa who are also sharing updates on Facebook, so I just saw this and came here to see if you had a similar update.

I pray that having this as a nationally covered story brings some results. I pray that they're still alive somewhere.

My husband was a director, editor for a local Television station for 20 years..

The reason not all missing children all may receive the same coverage on the news is because of the parents.. not always willing or able to speak with the press. The Police or FBI not willing to share.. for whatever reason, with the press..

Also unfortunately if there is a bigger news story out there the press is going to follow that.

This incident happened in a small community not a big city. Everyone has been willing to work with and speak with the press. It was a slow news weekend, with unfortunately 2 other females went missing and then were found dead, close by.. This storm of missing females was easy to cover for the national news.. They could send crews to a small state and get more for their efforts.

The news is a business not a community service.

What I have learned is if you want attention for your cause.. Get out there yourself and chase down the press, give them information and continue to have people contact them, telling them you want to see more updates.

I'm so glad you continue to post an update each day! I've found myself googling it at random times to hear any updates. My thoughts and prayers are with the girls, their families, law enforcement, etc.

Yes, I've been following the stories. Prayers continue for Lyric, Elizabeth, their families and friends.

I lived in the Waterloo/CF/Edale area for several years and this story is so heartbreaking. I pray they are found and are OK!

B - I think sometimes it depends on how hard family and friends push to get the media to cover it. In this case, there are thousands (last count was over 18,000 on one FB group/event alone) of people bombarding the news media with coverage requests. And there aren't a lot of other huge news stories going on in our area right now, other than the drought, so news places are picking it up.

I also think with things like FB, Twitter, etc, people are using these other outlets to spread the word and drum up support and coverage.

This is just SO sad and heartbreaking. It terrifies me beyond measure. I will continue to pray.

i think B makes a good point.
i AM glad that these little girls are being searched for and prayed for all across the nation. it's a terrifying situation and there's no such thing as 'too much' being done on their behalf.
but it's not all that awful for some of us to shake our heads over all the little kids who disappear with nary a peep. little white girls, especially from middle class or wealthy families, always generate an outpouring of support. not so much little brown or black or yellow ones. i hope that's a paradigm that changes.

for B below I agree but the problem isn't with these two getting covered it's with the others not getting covered nationally. you should be happy 2 more girls are being covered nationally instead of being upset as if they are taking someone elses place for being covered.
Also area does make a diference, a drug dealers kids going missing is little diferent then 2 girls vanishing into thin air in a nice area (that isn't saying both are as important, it's J. this hold a mystery that has people worried and on edge) thats my opinion atleast
