Hi- I was 9 weeks pregnant and just found out I had a "missed misscarriage". Baby heartbeat at 7 weeks, and now none. I don't really have a question- other than to see if anyone else out there has experienced this? They say it's common, but I do not know of one person who's gone through this. My D&C is scheduled for tomorrow. Any advice/words of encouragement would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

What can I do next?

I had a miscarriage at 6-weeks... there was a heartbeat previously... then none and the sac was just empty. But I had miscarriage symptoms. I had a D & C right after since I was already at my Doctor's office. The procedure was not awful and it was quick. I was there by myself, and everything happened so quickly... but I was fine. My Doctor and his staff was great.

Per my Doc, he said to wait at least 6 months before trying to conceive again. Yes, he said that these things happen, more than we think. In my case, the embryo was developing...but was not growing normally in terms of size and per the 'age' in weeks that I was pregnant. So, the embryo was not viable. It was meant to be.

I did feel a "loss" afterward... and I felt 'empty'...but this is normal. It took me a few months and of course the body's hormones will fluctuate too, thus making you feel sad... but I was okay.

I did get pregnant again, a few months after, with my wonderful son. There is hope and for a healthy pregnancy after. It will be okay. Really.

Just give yourself time, and talking about it with Hubby is always good too. You are not alone. It will be okay... and MamaSource is a great place to commiserate.

take care and all the best to you,
Susan

i was supposed to be 12 weeks pregnant and only measured 9 weeks when i had a d&C 2 weeks later the baby stopped growing and measured 6 weeks, thats when it started to dissolve into amniotic fluid....The D&C is not that bad its really in and out feeling.. there is some cramping afterwards.. i think the biggest obstacle is the loss but everything happens for a reason... and your emotions are a little out of wack as well but it passes.. and i got pregnant 2 months after the D&C and i now have another beautiful baby boy.. i hope the best for you and keep your head up:) everything will work out

Hi I.,

You have to hear the story of Kathy G. It is in my files from 11/29, however the DB will not go back that far. I can see it on my side. She was thought to have a miscarriage and she waited to do the D&C and when she went back in there was a heartbeat. It was a mistake. I will email it to you.

Hi I.,

I am so sorry for your loss. Miscarriage is hard, no matter how early or late it happens. I suffered a miscarriage but not in the same way as you. In my case, the fetal pole was present but no heart beat - and we were having twins. We waited another week and did another ultrasound and no change. My doctor called it a blighted ovum. In any case, we opted for the D&C as well, it was best to get it over with quickly and not drag it on.

Make sure you have some support during this time. It's hard mentally, emotionally, and physically. Cry if you feel the need to cry, there is no shame in it. Get a lot of rest after the surgery. You'll most likely experience heavy bleeding and heavy cramping that will start within a day of the surgery. The bleeding can even last several weeks, I think mine lasted nearly 3 weeks, possibly longer.

As hard it sounds, everything happens for a reason. Good luck tomorrow and feel free to send me a personal message if you need to talk.

-Char

Here is Kathy Gs post from 11/29...please read!!!

Advice On: Fetal Demise

Date: Sat. Nov. 29 2008 Category: Pregnancy Complications Please Anne, be VERY SURE your baby has died before you do anything at all.

I was told the exact thing and was told that the best thing would be to "Just go across the street and have a DNC." The doctor even picked up the phone to make the call and let them know I was coming over. He had made the determination that my baby was dead based on both physical exam and ultra sound.

Thank the Lord, I was in too much shock to make such a decision. I walked out the door and went home. I grieved the death of my first-conceived child for a month. It was the worst month of my life. Then I made an appointment to go back to the Doctor and discuss my options.

When I went in for my appointment, he did an ultrasound, and my baby had grown a little bit, and had a heart beat. HE HAD BEEN WRONG!!!!!! My baby was NOT DEAD!!!!

I ended up having a C-section to bring my beautiful first-born son into the world. He was 8 1/2 pounds.

Today, my little Tony is a Fireman/Paramedic in the City of Riverside, California. He is 21 years old. He is a whopping 6'2" and weighs 220. He is the epitome of health and intelligence.

My advice, get a second opinion, and even then, WAIT!!!

Anne, I am praying for you.

Hugs and blessings,
Kathy
