Mirena Removal and Period...how Long Did It Last?

I had a Mirena put in 5 years ago, and I recently had it removed (they only last 5 years). I am having another one put in, but the doctor said that that it has to be ordered and she wanted me to have a cycle before she did it. While I was on the Mirena, I never had a period and I loved it! Maybe once or twice a year I would get a little spotting, but that's it.
It's been 2 weeks since I have had the Mirena removed and I am still bleeding. How long will this last? Has anybody else experienced this? To go from no period for 5 years, to 2 weeks of bleeding sucks!!! :-)

What can I do next?

They should of been able to remove the old then put the new one in that day. They should of had it in your file if you were getting it put back in

I just recently had my Mirena taken out last month. Before I ever had it I only had my cycle once a year so when I got mine out I only had a little spotting. I was looking at my different options she said I could have the Mirena again for another 5 years or there is a new one that last 7 years but in my situation I was looking for more of a permanent fix so I am going with the essure. Have you called your doctor to ask if it was normal to have it for 2 weeks? Everyone is different so your best bet would be to call your doctor.

I'm having mine removed tomorrow so I am looking forward to your answers. After mine was put in, I had bleeding and spotting for 3 MONTHS. My OB said it was normal and happened in some women, but it still was pretty miserable. I'm really hoping not to repeat the experience. I know a few babies that got started the month that mirena was removed, so I would assume most women have a fairly normal cycle in the month after removal. You will probably have the spotting for a bit as having anything removed from the uterus can cause some irritation.

I don't know the answer to that, but I just recently had my 2nd Mirena put in. When discussing options my Doc said that after having theirs removed, many women would come BACK because their periods got heavy and ...frankly that SUCKS.

I don't see why you need that period between the two. My doc didn't do that. I spotted for a day after the 2nd was in and have been great ever since!

I have had awful super heavy periods, but just thought it was part of peri-menopause. I actually saw post on this site that suggested taking naproxin to lighten periods. I started doing that a couple of months ago and my periods are so much lighter and shorter. Maybe that could help you til you get your new Mirena.
