Mirena IUD...after a c-section...with Vestibulitis!

I have not had any problems with the IUD but it is very painful to insert and if you are lucky enough to have a well-endowed husband, he may feel the IUD.

I had both my kids via C-sections too. Definitely not elective! We really wanted to end up with 4 kids. Both my kids were conceived right away...we can tell you the day, and even the time of conception! I'm a fertile Myrtle...come from a long family of them actually. BUT no one had C-sections. The one thing doctors never go into detail about when they start the C-section business.... Is that every subsequent C-section you have, leaves a bunch of after math mess in your reproductive organ area. Actually, after 3...the chances go up that you'll need an eventual Hysterectomy too, I was recently told by a fertility specialist. So, after each C-section...you're not quite the fertile person you once though you were...and the chances of getting pregnant as easily as before gets slimmer and slimmer. Most likely why today we are seeing more and more people having only two kids! Let's just say 'things' get introduced during the operation to your insides that shouldn't...and they start to do bad things to your reproductive parts. Scar tissue is one...but if they don't get all the remnant blood...that can turn into endometriosis which you don't find out about for years to come, post operation (this is especially h*** o* your reproductive parts...its like bad oil that never gets cleaned up in a car's engine). And the bad bacteria also can get introduced into your uterus and worst of all...into your fallopian tubes. That's all exactly what happened to me. In trying for a 3rd, I've learned this all the hard way. Like you, I thought this 3rd would be super easy to achieve like the last two babies! However...not the case. The doctor put me through a few painful procedures (Hysterosalping -- you will not at all like this procedure if you have the Vistibulitis or are uncomfortable during sex) to find out why I can't get pregnant a Third time....they tried this standard procedure to check and see if my tubes were unblocked...but since have learned that the doctor actually more than likely introduced a bad baceria instead! My tube more than likely was not blocked before...but because of the bacteria she introduced...its definitely messed up now. I'm now being told, 2nd opinion and now a fertility specialist, that they will need to remove the tube (because the bacteria introduced into it ruined the natural Silia inside...its retaining fluid which is building up and is toxic...then gets pushed back into the uterus). My only option now to have a baby is to have that surgery and go through IVF. So.....

My point here... Is that if you TRULY want to have another baby... I'd HIGHLY recommend NOT messing around too much with your internal reproductive parts. And I'd definitely skip getting an IUD. You don't want to introduce other outside influences any where near your reproductive organs that could keep you from easily getting pregnant a 3rd time. I'd maybe do a pill....if you really feel you need to do something. I've since learned that if I would have been put on a pill after the last baby...it actually 'maybe' would have regulated my cycles...helped with post-baby hormone levels, control endometriosis, assist the thyroid, etc. and overall keeps the body more in check until I wanted to have a baby. Something my original doctor never, ever talked to me about of course!

Hope something here is helpful... Mainly just don't want anyone else's heart broken like mine has been (or spend alot of time on painful and expensive procedures!) at the hands of a C-Section/Surgery Happy, money-making mission doctor....

I had Mirena inserted 8 weeks post C-section and it didn't hurt. However, I don't have vestibulitis. That being said, Mirena made me crazy. I was extremely moody and in physical pain. I also felt pregnant pretty much the entire time it was in. Removal did not hurt. I only wish I had removed it sooner rather than later. I hope it works for you and that you do not have side effects. I had a mirena IUD put in 8 weeks after having my son. there are some things you MUST look out for. in pregnacy your uterus get strong muscles. in a very few percent of women you will start feeling contractions (i thought they were just cramps cause i wsn't prego) but some womens body will push out the IUD. it may also cause overian sists. but all you do is take out the IUD and they go away. if you start pushing out the IUD you doctor will remove it. I have a lot of pain with intercourse as well and it does hurt for a few minutes when you have it insurted or removed but it's better then a very small and loud supprise in nine months. I now am on depo and it takes a little getting use to the first shot or two but now i love it.

I am not familiar with your medical condition, but I have Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), and I had the Mirena inserted. Although it was fairly quick, it was extremely painful, and I even felt briefly like I was going to pass out. I haven't had any complaints since and have been happy with it, but I wonder how it is going to be to have it removed when the time comes. Good luck.

Hi There- I had my mirena inserted in 2007 around 8 weeks after the Csection birth of my son. I am currently pursuing a law suit against mirena/doctor because the mirena inserted itself into the c-section incision in my uterus thereby compromising my uterus and making me unable to have children in the future.
I had a really hard time on any pills so I thought this was a viable option. My doc did not explain the risks properly. Had I known, I would not have gotten it done. The IUD can perforate your uterus and attach on to other organs causing significant damage. Please consider this before you get the mirena put in. Only 8 out of 10 women can go on to get pregnant after using mirena.

I have the Mirena IUD and LOVE IT!!! My son was born the end of May by c-section and I had mine put in the beginning of August. Although I don't have vestibulitis, it was relatively painless. Some mild cramping when it was first put in and occasional mild cramping but not bad at all. I have now had my IUD for 4 years and couldn't be happier. I will have a new one put in next summer.

Hi. Like you I had C-sections with my my kids. After the second one I had my tubes burned so I wouldn't be able to have children by accident. Anyways, I have PCOS which causes a lot of pain during a period. The doctor suggested the IUD since it's common to not have a period on it. I'll not lie, when he put it in it was very uncomfortable bordering on painful but it is quick. I've been with it since Sept. 2008. I had a light period for about 2-4 weeks but since then nothing.

I just had a friend going off Mirena and she was MISERABLE for a month afterward. She said she would never do it again. It had to come out because of aweful chronic bladder and urinary tract infections. I don't have any personal experience with an IUD, but I do with vestibulitis. I had it for 5 yrs. I finally tried some alternative treatments. There is alot of information about it online. I stopped using fabric softeners and detergents with scents and dyes. After this my vestibulitis was gone in about 1 week!!! Not sure if this is your cause, but it was amazing the difference. Oh and one thing that helped when I had vestibulitis was to stop using KY. I use vegetable oil and it was WAAYY better. I know it sounds strange, but it worked much better. (You could probably use any type of oil like olive as well) GOOD LUCK.
PS. One of the things that happened as a result of vestibulitis for so long was I developed a case of Sexual Aversion because I started to associate pain with sex. For birth control I used Natural Family Planning. I wasnt having sex that much anyway and it was nice to know when I ovulated. (I used Couple to Couple League)

Although I have no experience with vestibulitis I do have another option for BC. I got the implanon implant three months ago. It is a small implant that goes in your upper arm. It can stay in your arm for three years, although you can remove it sooner if desired. I can't even tell mine is their unless you brush your hand over that spot. It wasn't really painful to get either..good luck!! I hope you find something that works for you!!!
