Mineral Makeup - Grand Prairie,TX

Maybe I'm missing something, What is the differance between Bare Minerals and loose powder? I've tried a few mineral makeups, but it just seems like a sheer coat of loose powder. And on some people you can see a wierd sheen. Not a healthy glow, but an odd metallic shimmer. So, it's powder that does not stop the shine? But everybody seems so gaga over mineral makeup. I must be missing something. I use a medium coverage foundation with concealer and put loose powder on top of that. When I used mineral makeup, I didn't feel I got any coverage at all. Did I just use the wrong kind? I'm confused as to how a powder is supposedly doing the same thing as a liquid or cream. Convince me I'm wrong. I would love to just do a swipe with a powder brush and be done.

So What Happened?

So, the only differance anyone has mentioned is that it is more finely ground? That's the differance in plain old powder and mineral foundation? That it is ground smaller?

I used to use Bare Minerals when it was getting all of the hype and really liked it, but hated how expensive it was. My friend suggested I try the Loreal brand because it was a lot cheaper and worked the same. I tried it and haven't looked back. It is less than a third of the price and it works just fine for me. I don't know if you'll get the same coverage with mineral makeup as you will with a liquid foundation, but I never really wore much makeup and just needed a little bit of coverage as I aged, so it worked great for me. I think if you want more coverage with the mineral makeup, you just add more. It never looks caked on and I just really like how light it feels on my face (I hated liquid foundation). Hope that helps!

I'll NEVER wear a liquid EVER AGAIN.

Just buy some and you'll see the difference and it actually looks BETTER thru the day. A liquid can't do that.

I will say a little primer REALLY helps the make-up go on. I do my mosturizer as soon as I'm out of the shower and then the primer. Wait a few minutes for it to seep in and aply the powder.

I was VERY reluctant to think "just a powder" would cover all my scars and imperfections but it DOES!

Powder in a compact is pressed powder, not the same at all.

Bare Minerals can be VERY sub due or VERY glam. It just depends on what products you buy. I just love that stuff and I FINALLY have something that MATCHES me skin tone!

You asked what the difference is . . . I believe the difference is what's IN the make-up. I'm telling you I used to ALWAYS break out, now only occassionaly and minimally with my cycle. I LOVE my mineral make-up (I use Mary Kay's, but like someone else said, the brush also makes the difference - I use a Bobby Brown kabuki brush - which was expensive but has lasted me years and years - and I'm careful to make each layer thin and just add another if I need it). . The mineral make-up is so much better for your face, and once you learn how to put it on, the coverage is great. But you really need to have someone teach you to put it on. A little goes a long way. Good luck.

I love the feeling of it on my face. It's light, not irritating. I hate wearing makeup because my face itches all day long and I just want to rub it all off. Bare minerals (or bare essentials?) They might be two different companies... it feels like nothing is on. And I've tried loose powder that isn't mineral based and it doesn't feel the same! AND I don't break out with the bare minerals. I do with regular powder. Best buy is the mascara, it doesn't feel like there is anything on your lids and doesn't itch. I have sensitive skin, can you tell?! :)

In order to not get the metallic glow, you need the mat powder. I have always had very bad skin and my non makeup face shows it. With bare minerals it completely covers it and doesn't feel like I'm wearing a mask. I am highly sensitive when it comes to my skin being covered. I can feel it when my nail polish on and I feel stifled. That's how (i guess you can call it) claustrophobic I am. But with Bare Minerals, I seriously don't feel it. :D
Go to the mall and have them do an demonstration on you, and you'll figure out why it's amazing!

The brushes you use makes a difference in coverage. I I use a three brushes, plus a blush brush. I have moderate acne and scaring. I use a stiff brush for that area, and finish with an all over dusting, you have to layer the powder on for coverage. A primer helps alot. I do not like the mineral powders that are metallic looking. I use Bare Minerals. For me I love that becaue I can reapply anytime with out a huge effort, and it is great at abosbing my excess oil. I have tried other mineral make up that I either didn't like the color choices or they had that mettalic look.

I've used bare minerals for about 10 years now. You have to buff it on with circular motions with the brushes made for the foundation (there are several kinds, depending on your preference). I get complete coverage even over my sun damage spots. And it really isn't that expensive. Foundation is $20 or so and will last me 5-6 months. Eyeshadows are $18 or so and I have some that are 10 years old and the pot isn't even half empty - a little goes a very long way. Go to www.QVC.com and look up bare escentuals. They have videos you can watch for application tips.

There is a Bare Escentual store at North Park, too. They are extremely helpful and will demonstrate the products for you.

Find a Bare Minerals store, go in with nothing on and allow them to do your make up. If you do not like the shimmer that can come with ask for the matte powder, that is what I use since I have oily skin. Yes, there is a difference with skin tone/type and the kind of brush/other product you use. They each have different qualities and like everything some are made better than others. I know there is one on the bottom level of the Parks Mall in Arlington.

I cannot stand liquid foundation now. It seems thick and hot here in Texas. My mineral make up seems to last all day. If I sweat, it doesn't streak. I can reapply if I ever need too... rarely. I can't even feel that I have anything on, but I look more naturally even toned!

My reasons:
- much lighter
- better coverage because of what it is made of
- doesn't melt when you are hot
- doesn't clog your pores like a regular powder may

I used to use Bare Minerals, then I switched to Mary Kay. I tried the Bare Minerals again after using the MK for a while and hated the Bare Minerals because it's a bit heavier and seemed to cake. I love the MK version and buy it off eBay for about half the price a rep sells it for.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE my Bare Minerals. I can't wait until we have some extra money and I can buy their eye shadows and lipsticks too.

Go to a store (usually in bigger malls) and they will do your make-up for you!

What makes a powder mineral is how finely ground the powder is. The finer the powder the better the coverage. Loose powder gives a nice finished look, but mineral powder is a foundation that gives coverage. Some powders are better than others and it's based on how finely ground they are. I use a mineral powder that gives great coverage but still feels light. Mineral powder also can be layered for more coverage, but I love that my face doesn't feel so heavy. You also shouldn't really see a sheen/shimmer. They may have used the wrong product, like using a bronzer with shimmer all over. That would give an odd glow.

Some mineral (loose powder) is better than others in giving you coverage. I really loved Youngblood because it gave a nice finish unlike some other cheaper brands. However I always struggled with some places on my skin having more color from the powder collecting due to moisture or the tiniest bit of oil. Now I use Nude and Improved by Origins and really like the continuous coverage of a liquid foundation without all the questionable chemicals. As for ease, I think a good liquid foundation can be just as easy to apply. I have 3 little kids so any beauty routine that takes more than 5 minutes probably won't happen every day.

While I don't think people are crazy when they say they love Bare Minerals, I know lots of people who used it forever and then tried another brand (Mary Kay, Clinque, whoever) that is now making mineral powder make-up and say that there is no difference. In fact, my sister switched to Mary Kay's mineral powders because she liked it MORE than the Bare Minerals. I think because they were the "first ones" doing it, it's what people know, but honestly, I think there are better ones (or ones just as good) out there anymore!

I like mineral powders because of the lightweight feel. You can't even tell that there is something on your skin! :)
