I stopped breastfeeding when my daugher turned 6 months and my milk finally dried up about a week ago. Now my skin is breaking out and I feel so weird (sad, hopeless, happy, out of it, confused, ect.). Has anyone else experienced this type of stuff when their milk dried up?? What is going on with me????

What can I do next?

Has your cycle started again? Could you just be PMSing? After not having ovulated for a long time the hormonal dips and bumps could be hitting you harder than before.

Yep! Perfectly normal hormonal changes! Sucks- I know! In my experience, the longer I nursed, the worse the hormonal changes when I stopped! Take it easy and if the depression gets worse, make sure you talk to someone. Best wishes!

I'm not sure about your skin breaking out....maybe it's due to hormonal changes since your bm dried up but I have heard of being getting depressed when they dry up. I forget the clinical name for it though. Maybe talk to your doctor and let them decide if you need meds for it? Good luck and sorry you have to through this.

Yes, I had all of those symptoms. My son nursed until 19 months and after he weaned my face broke out for about one month. It was ridiculously dry too...it would soak up a ton of moisturizer in seconds and still feel dry. I also felt sad/moody etc. I remember I cried over silly things (my plant dying). I chalked it up to hormones. Your body was producing milk and you had a level of hormones supporting lactation. Now they have to readjust to normal. After about a month I was "normal." Just know that you are not alone and you are correct about the cause of your symptoms.

It isn't that your milk has dried up - because in truth it hasn't... it's just not making the same production amounts it did when baby was actually nursing. If you wanted to start nursing again, it would take less than 3-4 days to get back up to the production needed for your baby.

The issue is - the love, relaxation and happy hormones which get released each and every time you and baby had a nursing session is now gone and your body misses it.
