Migraines Remedies?
For the past few months I have been getting terrible migraines. I even went to the eye doctor. Nope, better than perfect vision. I never used to get them before. I do plan to bring this up with my doctor on my visit in a week. Can anyone provide any suggestions as to what you do to help yours? I can't keep covering my head to keep all light is out and laying down while my kids nap (which then it still doesn't always help). Thanks SO much.
So What Happened?™
Thanks everyone for your responses! It's much appreciated! Hope you all feel better soon too!

Two excedrin extra strength and a can of coke.
Twenty minutes or less and it will be gone.

I have been suffering from migraines most of my life. I cannot take any of the migraine "quick relief" meds because I have "migraines with complications"-which means that I have other things going on with my migraines like weakness on one side. I have found that the simple things work the best. I will drink an extra large milk shake slowly, letting the icecream sit at the back of my throat for a few seconds before swallowing. It may feel worse at first, but goes away quickly. I have used crushed ice instead when I am unable to get a shake. Also eating any type of fatty food, in addition to the shake, if you can keep it down. There are some serious physiological reactions that are at work with these hints. Also I found out by accident, as one reader pointed out, that bathing in a very cool bath helps quickly.

all the rx Triptan meds like imitrex, amerge, zomig don't work for me and give me horrible side effects. The only thing that works is Excedrine Migraine. The caffeine is too much for me, so just using 1/2 a tablet with 2 tylenol (extra strength) works for me.
Lots of water, bananas, rest, massage, regular feldenkrais therapy works for me too (like physical or occupational therapy) but I have other stuff going on as well.
Good luck! I totally feel for you.

Hi Nicole,
I agree, the cafeine really does help! If the Excedrin and Coke aren't doing it, try doing that and then lying down with a cold wash cloth on your eyes. Also, peppermint oil on the temples has helped me, as well as lavender scent. Lavender (for me) works best before the migraine is too bad, because then smells make me sick. Good luck, and please share if you find a wonder cure!!!!

So Sorry for your pain. I've had them a lot. I tried everything and the only thing that works for me is mangosteen juice. It is 100% natural whole fruit juice with a natural anti-inflammatory. I take 3 oz of Xango a day and haven't had one in about 6 months. If your interested, email me and I'll give you more info.

Migraine..know them all too well..cheese is a major trigger for me..any cheese. too many processed/fried foods are also a trigger..the more i eat only organic, minimally processed, minimal preservatives, red dye food the less i get..that time of the month is also a trigger..
Head-on migraine works awesome, and its homeopathic. exedrin migraine works great also. i also bought a hand held mini massager that i massage my head with and that helps as well as ice packs..i get sinus and migraine together so mine are really tough to get rid of once i get one..
they have new drugs out that you take all the time to prevent them, but i am not interested in taking something daily and its costly. they also have a ton of prescriptions out there. i have to flip flop between them and its very costly, because none work that great for me.. imitrex pills dont work for me, imitrex shots work ok. maxalt used to work great, not so much anymore..i have had some quite older drugs that are really cheap and they work great but their names escape me as they are about 25 letters long(lol).
if you can keep a dairy of what you were doing, what you ate and drink, you might see some pattern..mine are also effected by the barometric pressure and dust..dust(and yard work) triggers a sinus headache which always turn into a migraine.
best of luck..i know what your going thru..oh..i also found out i have pcos and high testosterone levels and i have this progesterin cream which has greatly helped on the monthly migraine.
and a friend mentioned the other day, that migraine are chemical imbalances and try this...take 2 antacids, then drink a full glass of water and the migraine is gone(he swears by this)../.K., www.arkparties.com, www.greetingcakes4you.com and now shurepets also

I totally feel for you Nicole! My mother used to get HORRIBLE MIGRANES!! I finally convinced her to try drinking this juice called Xango. She still occassionally gets a headache but has not had a migraine in 6 months!! She used to get them weekly she had to sit in the dark for 2 hours sometimes. I started a website this week that explains more about the benefits of this juice. I started because of arthritis my arthritis is so minimal now I hardly notice it. Anyway, look at the site if you want more info feel free to send me a private message.
Good luck!!

I had Migraines for years. I found a chiropractor in downers grove on 63rd. that totally helped. I also found by eating regularly, and not snacking or eating the kids leavings really helped alot.Between the 2 of them, they really lessened.

Hi, I know you have a ton of responses, but wanted to let you know that as a current migraine suffer, but getting better, there is a prescription out there has for the first timein my life helped dramatically. Ask your doctor to put you on or if you can try topomax. You don't have to take it forever, just about 6 months. I have 100 mg./day. I take 50 in the morning and 50 at night. My mother is also taking this med. since she also gets the headaches. Topomax reconditions the chemicals in your brain that causes the headaches. Right now there are triggers that make you get them, and it gets rid of them. By the end of my treatment I should have 0-2 headaches/month and not migraines, but normal headaches. Now, I used to get headaches 5-6 times a week with a migraine thrown in there also. My dr. told me that every headache I had been getting for the last 20 years has been a migraine. I've been on topomax for 2 months now and my headaches have dropped dramatically. This is the first thing I've found that seems to work. Seriously ask your dr. about this and you can look it up also online and read about it. I hope your headaches get better no matter what you choose, I really feel for you.
Good luck,
R.
