Medication Advice

You can get liquid medication from the doctor. Put the ordered amount in the tip of a nipple if you do not have a syringe and let the baby suck it out. Baby's with colic find comfort in vibration. run the vaccum cleaner or put a blanket on top of the clothes dryer and lay the baby on the blanket while the dryer is running. Keep baby's head up after meals. You can use a car seat or bouncy seat. There is a bouncy seat that vibrates for baby's. This may be helpful.

A., I had two kids with acid reflux and they both had a liquid med I cannot recall the names right, but I think maybe Zantac, but as I said I don't recall for sure, but maybe you could ask your pharmasists before calling the DR. so you have the names and know what to ask for. I hope this helps.

Never noticed a difference with the drops. I just had to tough it out. My son was breast fed for 3 months and he always burped good. They claimed he had colic even when breast fed. Good Luck.

My step son has to take half a pill a time as well. I went out and bought a pill cutter. When I cut the pill sometimes it may break, but it's all contained in one spot, so then you just dump everything into the water.

I used Hylands brand colic tablets, they dissolve quickly, and are all natural.

Looks like you got a lot of advice. I don't know much about all this, but I wanted to direct you to a web site where you could get some help, maybe. It's www.fussybaby.ca. Look around her site a bit. I wish I'd had something like this when my 13yo was an infant.

Hycoscyamine is an anticholinergic medication that slows the peristaltic actions of the gut. Perhaps the doctor thinks your little girl has irritable gut syndrome. Possibly, because he also gave her Prevacid although that is for excessive acid production. I think you may want to consult a food allergist to see if there are some things she could be allergic to. Does she do OK with bottled milk? Or do you nurse her? Does she projectile vomit? Does she scream incessantly with tummy pain? Has she ever been tested by a gastroenterologist? Some babies can develop an intersusseption (not sure of the spelling) whereby part of the colon telescopes itself back onto another part. This can be very dangerous, so you need to act appropriately if she starts screaming differently than you think is normal for her colic.That is an ER visit. They will want to listen to her tummy to see if she has normal bowel sounds and go from there. You may need to switch formula, but since you didn't give her age, it is tough to call. This all sounds like it bears further investigation. Best of luck.

You can get Prevacid in a liquid form. Just ask your your pharmacist . I used something called mylicon ( over the counter) for my daughter many years ago. Not sure about Hyoscyamine sulfate. Try also holding your baby upright ( against you ) 10-20 mins after each meal and placing a blanket or towel under the head of her bed and try to keep her near the top of the bed. These all help with reflux. You could try warm baths, stomach massages ( there is a rhythmic stroking of the abdomen, intestine) that help it to flow better. Don't over feed your baby. They cry you feed them they cry again you feed them. It is just a cycle that does not end. If you just fed her and she ate well try other option than feeding her again. Rhythmic bouncing and patting there bottom may also help. Make sure she is stooling also. E.

If doc gave you Prevacid Solutabs, they dissolve in water. You should be able to break it in half or else buy a pill splitter at the drug store. The Hyoscyamine is to relax the digestive tract to relieve cramping.

I know absolutely nothing about the trials in babies, so I can't offer any advice whatsoever except that if you trust your pediatrician, go with what they say!

Hi A., My name is M., a mother of 3 and a pediatric nurse working in a very busy practice. I have never heard of the gas drops prescribed by your babies Dr. but they may be new on the market and perfectly safe. As far as the Prevacid solutabs, we prescribe alot for reflux. How I teach our parents to dose the meds is, I give them a 10 ml medication syringe and show them, pull the plunger from syringe and insert one pill into the chamber. Put the plunger back into the syringe chamber, push all the way down to get the air out. Put a couple of inches of warm tap water in a cup and draw up 5ml of the water. Put your finger over the tip of syringe and shake the pill mixture until dissolved. Not all of the pill will dissolve right away so as baby takes the medication draw up small amounts of the water, shake and feed to baby. keep doing this until most of the medication is gone. I find it really hard to get every drop, don't worry baby will still benefit

My son's doctor prescribed the same things when he was a baby, but he was also put on a special formula. Nothing seemed to help he still cried all the time. The formula made a difference with his constipation. The prevacid can be tricky since the little balls get stick in the dropper. I never did figure out the best way to give it. I just did the best I could in getting all the medication out. How old is your baby? My son finally stopped crying all the time around 9 months.
