Hello I' have a question regarding medicade in my state n ga ... I was wondering if medicade will pay for my second Anatomy ultrasound I'm currently 30 weeks pregnant and only had one ultrasound throughout my whole visit . And if Medicaid does not pay for this will they tell my dr the reason why they won't be paying for my ultrasound or will they just come and ask me to pay the bill or will me dr asked me to pay the bill?

What can I do next?

Welcome to mamapedia!!

You need to contact your social services office and the OB/GYN who is taking care of you to find out your allowed benefits.

Are you in NJ or GA? I ask because the benefits vary from state to state and your title says NJ but you state GA...

Most physicians who know their patients are on public assistance will check first before performing ultrasounds, etc. so they can ensure they will get paid.

Most insurance companies won't pay for 2 ultrasounds. I can't speak specifically to what Medicaid will cover, but unless there's a medical reason for a second ultrasound, they consider it a waste of money. If there IS a medical reason, they shouldn't deny you the treatment you need. You may want to ask your doctor's billing office about this. Generally they are very good about obtaining pre-approval for any service that requires it.

Is an anatomy ultrasound the same thing as a sonogram? Medicaid coverage varies from state to state so I would think that the number of sonograms you are allowed to have may vary as well. However, the key is--is it medically necessary?? If the doctor's have a medical concern, they will order additional sonograms and medicaid will usually pay. If you just want to see you precious little one again before delivery, you would be much better to secure the commercial services of a place that takes 3d sonograms and then gives you a copy to keep. That would be a whole lot cheaper than paying the doctor for a sonogram that insurance won't cover. They are usually called something like Meet the Baby. I have also seen group on deals for these types of services. Good luck.

Medicaid does't typically deviate from their standard of what's allowed. If you're getting an "anatomy scan" simply to get measurements of the baby and find out sex and it's not for an actual medical purpose, then no they won't cover it. If you insist on it then you'll have to pay out of pocket. You're not entitled to an anatomy scan.

Most insurance companies only cover one unless there is a real medical need. The doctor may bill them, but once it is denied the charges will come to you as a bill from your doctor's office.
