I'm looking for a Martial Arts kids class that is in the evening or a Saturday class.
The ones I've found start at around 4 or 5. I work till 5 to 5:30 and I don't have anyone who could take him for me. Saturday day class would be perfect too.
Any one know of studio that has these class times? I would prefer either North Kansas City area or even Merriam/Overland Park area. If it's a Saturday class I'm willing to drive further.

He said they do offer Saturday classes. Other than this info, I know nothing about this academy, but my friend is a great person and I would let him train my boys if they were interested in it!

The first step is to determine what kind of martial arts you want your child in. I put my 3 sons in judo. There isn't any kicking or striking and I found that the skills you learn can be applied to everyday life a lot more realistically than most other martial arts. I also believe the self defense skills taught in judo will be a lot more effective than what would be learned with other martial arts. This is all my opinion based on the research I have done. There is a wonderful judo coach that recently moved from Lee's Summit to Pleasant Hill. His class is on Sundays from 5:30-6:30. He only charges $25 per month. Their website is www.dltwelcomemat.com. Check out Young Champions of America. They do several different locations around town. My daughter goes to the Lenexa National Guard Armory to do her classes. They also do the Roeland Park Community Center and I believe they have a location up in NKC and a location in KCMO as well. They are only $6.00 a week, you don't have to buy a gi right off if you don't want to, competitions are optional, it's a very good set-up. It's classified as self-defense, but it is all martial arts, they just start with the self-defense moves and teach them about how to address dangerous situations, etc. We've been going for 2 years and love it!!
