Anyone use Magic Jack for their phone? My husband seems to think we need a landline phone, but we never use it, we both use our cell phones and I hate having to pay the phone bill $35 a month and it doesn't get used. Any input? Thanks!

What can I do next?

I know people who like it just fine......you can not do 3 way calling on it if that is important to you.

I use Skype......you can call cell phones and land lines if you buy the US/Canada package.......you have to use your computer, although I do know they have regular phones you can now buy for it as well.....you can get a skype phone number too.....

Check them both out and see what you think...........I've never had any trouble with Skype......so I can tell you about their customer service.......

Good Luck

I've been using it for about 3 months and I'm pretty happy with it. You have to have your computer on to use it, so if it's attached to a laptop that you shut down at night, it'll come back on when you power up again. It also has a voicemail feature. they e-mail you a wav. file if someone leaves a voicemail. Sometime's there's a lag similar to some cell signals but it's never really been bad. For the money, it's definitely great. I got mine at Radio Shack, I think, and it was $49+tax for the piece and the first year. You can get a random phone number for free, or a custom for $10. Pretty cool :)

I have a Magic Jack, but what we did is we sent it to my husband's family who lives in South America. They use it there and they have their own "U.S telephone number" with it...so they can call us on our cell phones or land lines or at my parents' house or wherever! It's great!
The only thing is that we had to "re-program" the one we have due to a tech problem- but to do so we had to do "online chat" with the tech team, which I believe was in India- so was kind of a difficult/tedius time to correct the problem.. but since it was fixed there hasn't been any other problems.
I recommend it!

hi,

i just bought one yesterday, havent put on yet since im not usb savvy. Im paying $22 a month for a landline that i dont use either (cant even find the phones). i had cancelled the I. D. caller view that was like $6 extra. we also use our cells for everything including long distance.

well the with MJ i will be paying $20 a year only. those who dont have cells can now call me again without being charged. caller I.D. is included and all calls can be forwarded to my celly. its a perfect back up when cell chargers are lost or cells broke or stollen or left at a friend house(the kids).

so now i just need to cancel the landlines but keep the phone jack activated for broadband and cable.

bad part is, gotta get a new phone# and no more being in the yellow phone book (if ur listed).

Well, everyone pretty much said what I was going to. Its a great phone/system. You do have to have a phone set to plug the phone cord into. Any problems that I have had with it has been solved quickly and easily with the online chat. And if the phone is off you do get an email with the wav. attachment if anyone calls. Caller ID, phone book/address book.. simple and a great product plus international calls don't cost extra.

We don't have a magic jack, but I thought I'd throw in about our land line. We have AT&T and have a measured line. We almost never use it but because we have small children I want a phone that I can use if the power goes out or something. We pay on average $12 - $15 per month (I think we get like 25 outgoing calls a month, we've never once gone over but it's something like $0.33 per additional call, still super-cheap). We don't have any bells or whistles but I like having the security of the land line and the cost is minimal. I just called and talked to customer service. Good luck!
