Hi, I am a new mom to be and I am due in July. I have been so absorbed with my business over the past few years that I have not made the time to connect and make new friends. Now that my life is changing and it is something I look forward to I feel like I need to connect with a community of women who are either newbies like myself and/or new moms as there is a lot that i would love to talk about and learn and just feel like there are women around to share this amazing experience with! Any suggestions as i have not seen anything yet for moms to be.

Hi H.,

I have heard of eastbaymoms.com and lamorindamomsclub.org. I belong to LaMorinda Moms Club and love it! It has great playgroups and activities. As for eastbaymoms...I have just heard about it. I think that the events are usually in Berkeley and Oakland.

Good luck and Congrats on your soon to be little one!

Hi H.,

My name is J. and I have a son, Jamil, who will be 9 months on Sunday. I moved out here from the east coast almost 4 years ago and haven't made alot of friends due to being really focused and business oriented. I am freelance graphic designer and fine artist. I'm open to connect with another business minded mom in Oakland as is has been hard for me to find a niche here too.

you can email me at ____@____.com if you are interested in meeting or talking some more. Congrats on your blessing!

until next time,
J.

Dear H.:

I took a prenatal Yoga Class on Thursday evenings with an amazing teacher named Cynthia Denise. She used to be an RN and has helped to deliver many, many, many babies. Her class was amazing and I got the benefit of excercise and met wonderful mostly first time moms. Most of my close mom friends came from attending this class.

Cynthia also taught a 6 week post-natal mom and baby class. Many of the moms who were in my class did this class too. It helped all of us with our physical recovery and Cynthia taught us infant massage which I still do with my now 15 month old son.

I would highly reccomend this class as a way to meet and bond with other moms to be.

Also, I had no yoga experience prior to starting the class. It did not make any difference that I was new to Yoga.

Good luck,

N.

P.S. - Also once you have your baby you should join a new moms group. Many of the groups are organized by the hospitals where you deliver or there are a few groups online. Check www.berkeleyparentsnetwork.com

I was in your same shoes 11 years ago and started going to La Leche Legue weekly gatherings for moms and babies or small children. We went to a different park every week. It really helped me learn the baby oriented side of the East Bay as well as meet new moms that were just my type of people (new moms, all ages, all races, nice, wanting to learn more). It was a great place to get and give hand-me-downs for both baby clothes and maternity wear for my next pregnancy. Those were great days and I have fond memories of them. Hope your memories will be as good.
