Looking into Moving Out of or Outside of Philadelphia

I'm thinking of relocating by next year to either Delaware, New Jersey, or the outskirts(suburbs) of Philadelphia. Does anyone know of any good areas in Delaware, NJ, or suburbs (outskirts)of Philadelphia, like Wynnewood, Ardmore, Media, Berwyn, City Line Avenue that would be good for a single mom to move to an area preferably with a good school district in it.

Also, does anyone know of any websites that I could possibly search on for rentals in those areas or rent to buy homes in those areas? I've tried Craigslist...just wondering if anyone knows of any others? or any newspapers that I could look in?

What can I do next?

DE is less expensive but you have to be careful about school systems. I don't think they are as good as PA or NJ. Live in Cherry Hill, NJ. School system is excellent but taxes are very high. Media, Springfield and that area shouldn't be too bad. Hope this helps. Also, seems like many people in DE develop health problems due to all of the chemical plants, etc. around. Good Luck. M. G

I live in Logan Twp, NJ. It is in Gloucester County, just over the Commodore Barry Bridge. The school district is amazing. 1 of 2 best in the county. And...our taxes are LOW!!!!! There is a lot of businesses (in business parks) in the township which keep the taxes really low. Logan Twp includes an area sometimes called Beckett for the developments there (where I live) just off exit 10 of 295, Repaupo & Bridgeport. Between these 3, I think you'd be able to find something in your price range whether you try to buy or rent. The "beckett" area has townhouses, small single homes to larger homes & some of them are for rent. Where I am, I can walk to the supermarket, a couple of small restaurants & an Applebees, an old fashioned ice cream shop.

The school has a great before/after school program too so your daughter could stay there until you get home from work & it is not too expensive considering some of the alternatives.

There are 3 big daycare centers in the area as well as 1 church run one. At least 2 of the big ones & the church one run summer camp programs which I assume you might need.

I work in Philly & my drive is about 40 mins. Not crazy but...a little bit of a drive. But...with all the industry here, you might be able to find work closer by. My husband also works in the city now & he drives to Del Cty to grab Septa to ride the train in. That is about a 10 min drive for him to the station.

I live in Cheltenham Township - good school district, diverse community, right over the border of North Philly. I love it here! Look into it!

I recommend Mantua NJ located in Gloucester County. Not only do they have some of the best schools in the county, it is a great place to a child and twenty short mins to Philly. Also about an hour to the Jersey Shore. I personally teach in Mantua and honesty can not say enough good things about the school district. Also they have a condo and townhouse complex in town(I use to live there) called Villages of Berkey that would be perfect for a single mom. It has some of the cheapest association fees, are well mantained and has a beautiful pool that is free of charge. I would suggest an upstairs unit bc there is no sound barrier and the down stairs can be loud, depending on who lives upstairs.
Pitman is the next town over and is also lovely. They have an adorable downtown and their highschool just was voted best in Glucester County. I hope that helps!

I live in Delaware County. There are plenty of good school districts. Drexelbrook apts are very nice, they are much more like a community then a apt complex.

You can also get a realtor to help you look for apts. I'm sure if you google it you can find someone.

There are also plenty of apt complexes up Township Line (that's what City Line becomes out here in the burbs).

Media is also a great town, that's where I grew up. Rosetree/Media school district is excellent. Although I've always gone to Catholic School and that's where my kids are going.

Good luck on your search!

Hi Q.,

My name is Jenica, and my husband and I are actually real estate agents with a really cool company called EveryHome, Inc. that covers the counties surrounding Philly. Check out:

www.everyhome.com

The website is great because it is the MLS (multpiple listing service) so you get to see pictures and addresses of every home that is actually listed, by all the companies, like Remax, etc. It is updated daily. It is also organized by school district, price, county, or you can ever search by street name. Also, we give a rebate to our customers as a thank you for choosing us, because we advertise by word of mouth. Have fun looking, and if you ever would like any more info, feel free to e-mail or call me! Good luck!

We live in Conshohocken (one of the suburbs) and love it. My kids haven't started public school, but I've heard great things about the school system here. It is a nice quiet town and lots of things within walking distance. Nice and quaint!

I've lived in Cherry Hill, NJ my whole life. I think it is a great community with a really wonderful school district. The local paper is the The Courier Post, maybe there would be rental listings there.
