Hi, I am about 7th month pregnant with first baby and need to pre-register for hospital. I need to idenity the pediatrician as part of the pre-registeration. Any recommendations for pediatricians? I would prefer someone close by the MV/LH area.

Also, what should I ask the pediatrician to determine if he/she is right for me? (sorry, first time experience).
- are you available during the weekend?
- what methods of communication (telephone, email, etc)?

What can I do next?

I go to Dr Dyer at Coastal Kids. They have multiple offices-Ladera, Laguna Niguel, and Newport. I think all the Dr there are great and highly recommended.

My daughter will be 3 in February and our pediatrician is Dr. Jan Johnson. She is part of the Seaview Pediatrics practice and they are located in Aliso Viejo. She has been a great support to my husband and I and provided great advise that allowed us to set a schedule and get sleep very soon after my daughter was born. Seaview has new parent orientations and you can meet the doctors to make the right choice based on your needs. Good luck and Congratulations!

Congrats on your pregnancy! I hope it's all going well.

I have a lot of pediatricians listed here: http://oc.citymommy.com/?q=place/view/term/27 You can search by neighborhood to get the ones in your area.

I have heard a lot of positive comments about Seaview Pediatrics, Coastal Kids (esp. Dr. Abelowitz), and Southern OC Pediatrics (two friends see and love Dr. Ball from this group).

The questions you mentioned above are great to ask. Also find out if they have separate waiting areas for sick and healthy kids and how you can contact them when the office is closed.

Another thing to ask, since many of these doctors work in groups, is whether you'll always see the same physician or if you see whoever is available at the time of the appointment.

Good luck!

I live in Aliso Viejo and Dr Jan Johnson at Seaview is our pediatrician. I love her! She's great! She's affiliated with Saddleback and Mission, but you can also deliver at Hoag. That's what I did...you just have a staff doctor at Hoag see your baby while in the hospital and then see your normal pediatrician the first week you are out like normal.

As for how to pick...honestly, a lot of it is gut feelings...

Good luck!

Dr Shannon is the best! He was my pediatrician 35 years years ago, so he knows his stuff. He works out of Seaview Pediatrics and has offices in AV and SC. You will love him if you meet with him. He is pretty in demand though, so hopefully you can get in. Good luck!
