Looking for Help with Daughter's Eczema

My daughter has recently been diagnosised with eczema. The cream her pediatrician gave us initially helped some, but it hasn't completely gone away. I am looking for ideas from those experienced with eczema. Thanks!

What can I do next?

Both my girls have it and we use Cetaphil (the one in the pump bottle). At first I put it on as often as I can, for example every diaper change. Then when the patches get smaller I use it everytime I change their clothes. The other tip that I was given was to never wipe (only pat) their bodies when getting them out of the tub, and get the lotion on as quick as you can to trap the water on the skin.

Both my husband and my son have eczema, and Aquaphor works wonders for them. You can find it at drugstores and some supermarkets. It's in a white tub with a blue top. Applying it after a shower/bath seems to net the best results for them. The consistiency is like Vaseline so you don't have to slather it on.

Good luck!

Try Melaleuca products. My cousin and her children had eczema really bad, now it is totally gone. She used the Melaleuca lotion, bath oil, and soap. You would have to find a distributor though. Go to their website to find someone in your area on melaleuca.com. Melaleuca products contain high quality tea tree oil. I have tried the products and they are wonderful. I love their toothpaste line and that lotion is awesome. I hope this is helpful.

I would recommend Arbonne. They are Swiss-formulated, herbally and botanically based products with no artificial dyes or fragrances that often irritate sensitive skin. Specifically, given your daughter's age, I would recommend the ABC Body Wash and ABC Body Lotion. The cost is $14 each and all products come with a $$$ back guarantee. If it doesn't help, I want it back. I have had many clients who had found tremendous relief from eczema with Arbonne's products. I met a Mom at the beginning of August who had struggled to find a solution for her son's eczema. She tried Arbonne and within a week his condition was almost completely cleared up. My friends 2 yr old has it REALLY bad! She will give her benadryl for the itching and aquafor (Spell?) at night. that helps!

Hi K.! You've received some good advice. Are you aware of any allergies in your little girl?

I have some thoughts and my own story to share but if I could understand better what you've already done it would help me be more helpful.

What are your daughter's eating habits like? What laundry products do you use? Has your Dr talked with you about what kind of fats your daughter may need? Has Dr talked about strengthening her immune system?

The fats was a part of my story with our son. Once I figured out what fats and other nutrients he specifically needed ( a friend gave me a tool for this) the eczema healed. I would be happy to share more details if this direction sounds like a fit for you.

warmly, M.

Try eliminating all dairy for one or two weeks- see what happens. I have seen a severe case of Eczema completely disapear by doing so.

Hi K.,
Our son had severe eczema. We met with Dermatologists, allergists, etc... and tried creams with no permanent solution. Went to a holisitic Pediatrician in Ann Arbor and have discovered that Gluten is a big problem for him (this did not show up on allergy tests - however when we removed gluten, his eczema cleared up completely). He also has flair ups when exposed to his other allergy foods - eggs, bannanas. Many docs treat eczema externally but the root cause is internal. Exploring this is a must. From the outside we apply Flax seed oil and Borage oil daily. We use a little hydrocortisone when a bad flare up occurs and a thick cream in the winter when skin gets dry. The Ann Arbor doc also started him on homeopathics to help his system and he takes Cod liver oil and Probiotics to support his system. Since his eczema is cleared, he is looking awesome. He has also gained weight, stool has normalized and he is so happy (these are things we didnt really notice as being a problem until they got better). Take care - L.
