Looking for Good Private Swim Lessons in West Omaha or Opinions on Swimtastic

I am looking for any recommendations for private swimming lessons in west Omaha. My 3 year old hates getting her face wet and still has a little fear of the water. I'm afraid that she wouldn't get the attention that she needs in a group lesson/setting. Does anyone have any suggestions for me? I know it's kind of late in the season, so I thought that people might have some recommendations from their experience this summer. Also, I had the Swimtastic Swim School send me some info about lessons. Has anyone taken lessens there? Are they worth the money? What have been your experiences? Thanks for taking the time to help me out!

What can I do next?

Hi S.,
Swimtastics is a great place. It's a little more expensive than the Y but it's worth it because classes are 4 kids or less and the water is 90 degrees. My daughter took classes there this spring. I know they are signing up for fall classes now so I would give them a call. But I know their sessions are back-to-back all year long so if you miss the fall session you can sign up for the next session. It's a great place - everyone is really caring - and you can't go wrong!

I would highly recommend Swimtastic. It is a little pricey, but they did wonderful with my son, who was very hesitant to get in the water without me. They make it very fun, and in the end my son couldn't wait to go to swim lessons. The group lessons are a maximum of 4 kids, but both time my son took lessons it was only three kids with on instructor, so he really got one-on-one time. They also offer private lessons, and will give you some family swim passes so you can take your daughter during the open swim times to help get her more used to it. I know a lot of people who take their kids there and really have only heard good things. They also offer lessons year round, so you can get her in at anytime. Good luck!!

S.,
If your daughter is scared of the water at this point I wouldn't bother with the swim lessons just yet. Get a little pool for the back yard, or take her to the local pool yourself and get her more comfortable with the water itself. If you can take her on a daily basis, and she sees that it isn't so bad, it will make lesson time SO much easier for everyone.

Hi S.,
I have a one yr old I am teaching to swim. I purchased a book (Learn to swim)from One Step Ahead, the website or catalogue compay, and it is great. They stress getting your child used to the water at bath time and making it fun. Then work your way to the big pool. Your first trip to the big pool may just be that, with no water time. Then the stairs. A small baby pool in your yard would be a good start too. Just don't make her do something she doesn't want to. One thing you may want to try in the bath is using doll and let her trickle water on the doll and then herself. Then distract her with another toy. Try not to make it a big deal. The book was only $15. Goodluck!

I have a suggestion for you and other moms who are looking for swim lessons near Omaha. Check out Aqua-Tots Swim Schools in Omaha, NE. The address is 14242 Fort St #110 Omaha, NE 68164 and the website is http://www.aquatots-omaha.com
You won’t find more than four students per swim class, so it can be an intimate group. They offer private swim lessons as well. I took my daughter there and we absolutely loved it. You don't have to wait until summertime either. You can take swim lessons year-round at Aqua-Tots. They have monthly tuition based swim lessons for babies 6 months and up.
