I am looking for a good pediatrician in the West San Jose/Saratoga/Campbell area. I am going to be a first time (due in April). Does anyone have any recommendations or pediatricians that are accepting new patients? I have Blue Cross health insurance.

Thank you!

So What Happened?

Dear Friends, I cannot thank you enough for all of the referrals. I heard that your child's pediatrician will be a very important person in your child's life. I'm going to start calling around to the doctor's that you suggested. I didn't know that you could even interview pediatricians! I tried to interview my OBGYN when I found out I was pregnant, but just got assigned one that was taking new patients and I don't like her at all. She rushes me out the door, doesn't listen to me and well, it's been a rough 7 months! The good news is that she probably won't even be the one to deliver my baby (El Camino Hospital in Mt. View rotates their on call delivery doctors.) I do NOT want to be in this situation with my baby's pediatrician. I REALLY APPRECIATE all of your help. Thank you and have a nice day! Sincerely, K.

I have found a GREAT pediatrician. He is "old school" in that he takes calls at ALL hours (rare these days), and will open his office to see your child on Saturday and Sunday if needed. I went to him after finding out that my pediatrician did not answer after-hours calls, instead a nurse answered and sent me to the emergency room if i needed to see a doctor.

Give him a call to meet him before you make your decision.

Good luck with the delivery! It really doesn't hurt as much as people say it does (but don't tell the men that!)

I have been happy with Dr. David Trager. His office is by Good Samaritan Hospital. I found him about three years ago after he was recommended in Bay Area Consumer Checkbook. I belive he is Stanford trained. I have Blue Cross also, and I know the practice accepts it.

Good luck!

Their hours are monday through friday from 9-12 then open again 2-5pm. Love this doc, always wondering what new tie he has that day. We really love this doc and the nurses are great too. Our daughter is always wanting to see the fish too.

Great Doc!: Dr. Trager has been my son's pediatrician since day 1. He came to the hospital the day my son was born. Dr. Trager is very warm, caring and knowledgable. The practice is great as well. Even if Dr. Trager is out, there is someone there to see my son if there is an urgent need. The doctors are also available through urgent care during weekends.

He's wonderful!: Dr. Trager was our 4th doctor - we're very picky. We've been with him now for 4 years, and wouldn't leave. He's extremely warm, friendly, and bright. I think he genuinely loves our kids. He remembers their names and spends time talking with them when we drop in randomly for school paperwork, despite a big practice. He accepts that I want input on when/what vaccines are administered, and goes over each one with me so I know his opinion. He also is careful about prescribing antibiotics, etc. I feel like I've found the best doctor, he works well with both my children and with me.

Hi Kathy -
I recommend the Alta Vista Pediatric Medical Group over by Good Samaritan Hospital. It is a group of 4 docs - 2 women and 2 men. The nurses and staff are great and friendly. Our favorite is Dr. Parvez Ahmed but all of the doctors are wonderful (Drs. Don and Laura Stemmle, and Dr. Catherine Rose). I'm not sure what insurances they accept but I think they accept most. We'd still be with them if we hadn't switched to Kaiser. Here's the office number: ###-###-####
Good luck!

My son goes to Dr. Trager. He's with Ramblc Pediatrics across the street from Good Samaritan Hospital. I have a few friends that go to him as well and we all love him!! You can set up a time to meet him before your baby is born. Good luck in your search.

We use Care First Pediatrics near where Winchester ends and Los Gatos begins. All the doctors there are patient, kind and pro-active about your child's health. They also use common sense approaches to problems you face as a parent. I don't know if they are accepting new patients, you'll have to call, but I would check them out. My friend recommended them when we moved here and I've taken my two kids there for the past six years. They spend time listening to you and to your child and they get to know each family. Their staff is gentle and every time I go, I am thankful we have them looking after us.

Camino Medical Group is great. I see a pediatrician in Mountain View named Tim Lee, he is great. The group has offices in Mtn. View, Sunnyvale, Santa Clara... I have never been disappointed with the care. I suggest you call information and ask for Camino Medical Group Pediatrics and they, (CMG), will give you a list of pediatricians accepting new patients. Good luck, and congratulations on your baby girl!! :)

Dr. Stuart Pearlman in Los Gatos is wonderful (right next to Los Gatos Community Hospital)! We have Health Net, but I believe he takes Blue Cross too.

I go to Dr. Stuart Pearlman & really like him. He's in Los Gatos, but on the Campbell border. My sons have had a lot of medical issues & Dr. Pearlman is always proactive in getting referrals to specialists instead of trying to handle it in-house & get the fees himself. (I have HMO)

He's in practice w/ 2 other doctors, and they rotate on-call wknds. Some of my friends/family have the other docs as their primaries & really like them as well.

BTW, I think most docs will offer a free meeting before choosing so you can get a feeling of their style/demeanor.

Hi darling! COngratulations on your new baby girl coming soon!

I know of a WONDERFUL and completely caring female doctor. She is the Camino Medical Group located on Old San Francisco. It is in that area I think you are looking for.

She listens to you and does not care how many people you bring in to each doctor's visit. She is SUPEr friendly, does not leave anything to chance. She is supportive and funny. You HONESTLY could not ask for more. I would follow her wherever she would move (she is not moving though :) )

Her name is Melanie Klein and her number at the Pediatrician is: ###-###-####

Love Dr. Margaret DeVilliers! She is truly a blessing! She's a very gentle and kind pediatrician for our three children. Her practice is Care First Pediatrics in Los Gatos, right across the street from Community Hospital of Los Gatos, on Pollard. I'm not sure what insurance they take. It's worth calling.
When you see her tell her I. Graef (mom of Lauren, Micah, and Michael) referred you. I refer new patients all the time and it always puts a smile on her face.

I like our current pediatrician a lot but absolutely loved our previous one... we had to stop seeing her for insurance reasons. Her name is Jacqueline Tsu (pronounced Sue) and her office is next door to O' Connor Hospital. Their phone number is ###-###-####. She's very down to earth, easy to talk to, never makes you feel rushed. Good luck with your search and with your new baby!!! :)

Hi Kathy-
We just changed pediatricians (we moved) and love him - Bryan Drucker at Pediatric Associates. He came highly recommended by my mom, who is a mother/baby nurse at Good Samaritan. Their website is: http://ped-associates.com/index.htm. They offer a free 30 minute prenatal appt if you want to meet the doctor prior to making a decision. I have Blue Cross, so I know they accept it. Good luck in your search!

We absolutely LOVED Dr. Andrew Lan, also with RAMBLC Pediatrics across from Good Samaritan. We had Blue Cross with him, too. We switched ins, so had to switch drs. I had been with RAMBLC since I was 2 yrs old, went there into my 20s, and took all 3 of my kids there until we switched. Can't say enough about the whole office!

Good luck!!
