Lemont Vs. Downers Grove???

We are currently looking to move, although not sure where. We have been considering Lemont and Downers Grove, although open to suggestions in that surrounding area, but I am really looking for some help regarding schools. My older daughter will be starting kindergarten in the fall and we are keeping her at a private school until we figure out where to go. We are obviously looking for the best schools, and I do know how great Naperville is, but it is too far from where we both work. So any feedback on schools in the Lemont/Downers Grove area would be VERY helpful, as well as any comments (good or bad) about the areas themselves, shopping, activities, park district, etc. I have done some reasearch with the school report cards, but I would love some "real" thoughts, not just the numbers. Thanks in advance for your help!

What can I do next?

There is small school district on the far south side of Downers Grove that serves Darien, Woodridge and Downers Grove call Center Cass 66. It covers from 355 to about a mile east of Lemont Road and 75th street south to 55. It is a great school district with many great neighborhoods.

Hi Tami

With the exception of a few months here and there, I have lived in Downers Grove my entire live. I went to schools on the south end of town, and am raising my son on the north end of town. I love DG. My son required an IEP with school, and they have been so helpful and good with us.

When my son was younger, we participated in many of the available activities. He was in many programs through the park district, each one a unique a positive experience: dancing, singing, soccer, art. When he was old enough he joined Panther Football (they do cheerleading too). Now that he's older, most of his activities are less formal, except for football, which he still loves.

As a mom, I love how convenient all shopping is, no matter where you are. And they have been revitalizing the downtown area the past few years, so I would definitely encourage you to visit that some weekend.

I believe living in Downers costs a little more than Lemont, but I think it’s worth it.

Good luck in you search.
A.

Hi Tami,
I moved to Lemont when I was in first grade back in 1981 and have lived there all my life upto a couple of years ago. I love Lemont and everything it has to offer. I went to the public schools in town and enjoyed everything. There was always plenty to do for me when I was a kid and teenager. With all of the activities the Park District has to offer along with Little League and Pop Warner. I have been thankful each and everyday for some of the teachers that I have crossed paths with during my schooling there. I know some things about Downers Grove, not much about the schools, but I work in the town. I have enjoyed what that town has to offer the children, especially the childrens programs that the police department offers and the park district. Good Luck in your decision.

I love both of those areas. Lemont is a little more affordable in housing, but house prices continue to rise now with the I-355 extension and new development. I heard they are eventually adding a river walk/Naperville concept in the downtown area. We almost bought in Lemont, but ended up finding our dream home in Willow Springs. I don't think you can go wrong in either suburbs for schools too.

Hi, I live in Lemont! I cannot say enough good things, about the schools (both public and private!), and the park district activities are awesome. Lemont is a great community, and I am proud to live here. If you have any questions, just ask!

Hi Tami, We've lived in Downers Grove 7 years now. Our oldest daughter will be starting Kindergarten in the Fall at St. Mary's. This was a difficult decistion since we heard GREAT things about public and private schools here. So we'll see. Anyway, we love Downers. It is a great location not too far from the city and easy access to various highways. Awesome parks (and park district activities), growing downtown area, nice and friendly "neighborhoods". Good luck! C
