Leaving Job

Hello Mamas,
So I am very excited to start a new job in a different town. There is more opportunity for me and hopefully less drama!!! My question is, how would you handle a boss whom you know drinks during lunch? Would you kindly say something to her before leaving...or just leave? I mean it's obvious when she comes back with purple lips and teeth. But I am sure she would deny it anyway. She does report to someone else in the building who is her boss. I know I shouldn't even care, but she is somewhat of a friend and I just want to say that if I am noticing, someone else might too.

What can I do next?

Don't burn your bridges behind you. You never know when you'll need a good reference or who knows, you might end up working there again someday. If you have to grit your teeth as you smile and walk out the door, just do it and do it graciously.

If anyone knows she is drinking at lunchtime, SHE does. I wouldn't say a thing except "Thanks, it's been nice working for you."

I wouldn't say anything. It's none of your business if you are leaving and if you are noticing I'm sure her boss is as well. That should be her boss's problem. Good luck with your new job! :-)

I would not say anything. She may have a glass of wine or two, but if she is performing her job properly. Let it go. If she is falling down and slurring her words, that's different. Be careful. You don't want to create enemies. She may have been there a long time and do well at her job.

Best not to say anything or stir up anything... especially before leaving for you new job.
I would not say anything.
I assume you already got your references/recommendation letters, to keep for your files in the future.

If you know she is drinking, then others probably know too, and she probably smells of alcohol too.
But still, you are leaving for a new job, and I would just not say anything lest you create "problems".... which would reflect upon you, before you leave. You want to leave with a good impression, (even though you already got a new job), so that the "company" views you positively and you are leaving on good terms.

All the best,
Susan

I would just get a shocked look on my face and whisper something goofy like "Girl, what did you have at lunch, your teeth are purple!!! Better go brush or someone else is going to notice." It will let her know that it's showing and that it is noticible. She may realize it's not as secretive as she thought. I would do it again a couple of times, just like friendly conversation. Not confrontive or acusingly. Just like a good girl friend kind of thing.

Agree with the other comments. Unless you have personally witnessed it, I would not recommend saying anything. You may open a Pandora's Box in the process.

Leave the company on the best possible terms (including that boss who you may need for a reference one day). Unless you have a personal relationship with her to say something out of genuine concern, I would not advise bringing it up.

Good luck with your new job.
