I have tried the Lactaid brand pills, but they do not work for me. I have had a lot of success with the Kirkland brand pills from Costco though. I take them everywhere with me! Every once in a while, I will still get sick even if I do take the pills - just want to warn you they do not work perfectly all the time!

Hi D.,
I developed lactose intolerance when I was 28 years old. I can honestly say that it was difficult especially if I went out to dinner or in a social gathering. I was always afraid to eat anything and if I by accident ate something with dairy well you know what happens.
After years of suffering and eventually the lactose pills no longer worked (your body builds an immunity to them after time). I decided to go completely off dairy. I started drinking soy or rice milk (best milk is Soy Dream or Rice Dream). I purchase it from Trader Joe's who has the best prices. As for cheese, I purchase Veggie Slices (which is also made of our soy). The best lactose free pizza is Soy Cheese Pizza by Amy's. Check your local grocery store or Trader Joe's if they carry it.
Last year my chiropractor introduced me to some digestive enzymes and pills to help build back the bacteria and enzymes I have lost which was the cause of me being lactose intolerant in the first place. Before trying any enzymes I would consult with your doctor and see if they can refer you to a gastrointestinal doctor to check to see if there's a reason for your intolerance.
Now after a year of doing the enzymes I have been able to eat cheese pizza and other dairy dishes from time to time. I don't eat real cheese stuff everyday just once in a while and I have been fine.
If you would like some yummy non-dairy dishes please feel free to contact me and I would be more than happy to send you my favorite recipes.

I am lactose intollerant and have a 4 year old with the same problem. It is a very expensive dilema, esp. when others in the house don't have it so you buy two of everything! I just feel really ill, but my son goes into imidiate vomiting and diahrea when he has milk. He hates lactaide milk. We drink soy milk, and Costco has really good prices on boxed and Silk. We both also use lactose pills with success and have never had them fail. Still, we don't pretend they are a cure-all and still moderate the amount of dairy he consumes. A glass of milk is fine, but we don't push a round of pizza, milk and ice cream in one sitting. And just to be clear, this is a lactose intollerance, like stomach upset, etc. and not an allergy with hives or swelling throat, right? Because I have no experience with that.

My daughter who is 14 gets really bad stomach aches from milk. She uses the Lactaid pills. We tried the brand name ones first, and now buy the generic, and they work for her. I hope they do the same for you.

I am very milk sensitive also. I love the chewable lactose ones. I carry them in my purse because the are wrapped like to per pack. I have had great luck with them.

Hi, I tried them years ago, and they have a similar effect as the lactaid milk. Since then, I have discovered the richness and healthy qualities of raw milk, which is VERY expensive, but I only buy 1 gallon a week and limit my kids to one glass a day. I limit myself to 1/2 glass a day and all is well. Before that, I used vanilla rice milk with a scoop of rice protein powder. My decision came about after reading resources on raw milk on: mercola.com and do search for "raw milk". Good luck

Hello D., Well I don't know much about the lactose pills but I do know that the lactose drops work well I used them with my children and it worked very well. My daughter when she was little used to get sick and through up all the time after having milk and so we tryed the drops with her and it worked. My youngst is lactose intalrent and was on formula till he was two and half then I decided to get the lactose drops for him and it worked great. The thing I liked about the drops is that I could mix up a little or a lot and still have milk for the others that were not lactose intalrent. So it is just a sugestion to get them and try them. I have only heard about the pills and that they work well for eating ice cream and chesse. Well good luck and god bless, J.

Hi D.,
I have found something much better than the lactose pills. Like you I too get sick from drinking milk and what I have found is that it is actually an enzyme that we are missing to break down the proteins in the milk. I use the Arbonne Hybrid Vitamins that have a digest aid in them. Since I have been on the vitamins I can have milkshakes again and I can eat pizza and Chinese food and not feel over full and sick. I would love to show you how you can save money with the Arbonne vitamins. Just email me back. Now I am not sharing this information for a "sale" as I don't even sell retail anyway. I am sharing this information because I have had digestive problems since having my son and the only thing that has ever worked for me are these vitamins.
M. :)
