As someone who has had 44 of those puppies I can tell you sipping lemon water every 15 minutes helps. I am surprised they sent you home with a 4 instead of pithiness or stenting. Stay away from cranberry juice and get blueberry instead. If you are vomiting you need to be seen as this usually indicates infection. Not uncommon when you have a stone. Take your pain meds on a schedule instead of p r n if possible. In other words if you can have one every four hours then close to that four hours being up take the med. This will help keep it down some. My r n s I l taught us this trick. Also try an ice pack and heating pad see which one does you better. If it is heat thermacare wraps help a lot.
Du had a 4 and 7 and they went after them. I had litho with a 4, so don't be surprised if they want to do this if it doesn't pass on its own.
Big hugs as I know your pain well and hope you get well soon.

Yes. If you are running a fever, find yourself a Urologist ASAP. It is not healthy to let kidney stone go for a long period of time.

My husband gets a kidney stone every so often - it's like no other pain. Do you have anyone who can care for your baby while you writhe in pain? My husband eventually got lithotripsy for a stone that would not pass - he was a new man within hours. If you go that route make sure you find a good place - I've known other people who came home bruised with no results.

You need to get back to the doctor. Now with a fever and pain, they may need to put you in the hospital. Get your household set up, pay your bills, get ready. Most people need to be in the hospital to pass a kidney stone.

Good luck,

Your doctor should have given you a fact sheet when you left the hospital/office. If the doctor who treated you is your primary care doctor, then you need to call him ASAP and let him know about the vomiting and fever. If it was an ER doctor then you need to check the fact sheet. If you don't have one, call the ER or call your PCP. Fever is sign of an infection and you're going to need additional treatment.

Kidney stones are no fun, and I always find them to be far worse than being in labor. One thing I was always told to be on the look-out for was if I had a fever during a bout with kidney stones, so please make the call.

They should have told you to follow up with your dr. and given you certain things to watch for. I would call your dr. Espesically is you are vomiting.

Good Luck and God Bless!

LOTS, LOTS of CRANBERRY JUICE...THAT FROM OCEAN SPRAY NO OTHER... I am prone to kidney stones, I had them my whole life and I just know when I am having an attack. I go to the bathtub, I fill it with hot water, I stay there, and I start drinking lots of Cranberry Juice,(my poor husband is the one running from the kitchen to the bath with the glasses of C Juice. It is painful, It is disgusting because I throw up (so I keep a bucket close to me). Every single time, and after an hour I have to go to the bathroom, then I pee, and I pass the stone, it is usually disintegrated..dust! Doctors never talk about that and when I tell them, they don't believe me....but it works! However, you have to be careful if you have fever....sometimes the stone is stuck and may cause infection, your doctor can help you with something else. Do not wait too long. keep always Cranberry juice handy and drinking it for lifetime.

Hi A.,

I do feel your pain. My first one was at age 12 and they continued for years. Yours is exceptionally big so I know the pain is tremendous and the vomiting is natural. One that size is going to have trouble passing. It's going to have to dissolve or be broken up. I HATE hospitals but in this case I think you need to get additional medical attention.

Continue with the water. After this is over, PM me and I can go into detail about how to prevent them. I had one build every two years until I was 40. When I determined what caused them, I was able to get rid of them forever!

God bless,
M.

I feel badly for you. I have had several stones. My first was when I was 7 months pg (which is common) then again about 10 years ago, then 4 in the last 2 years and have been in the ER for a few of them. They have given me IVs of morphine and I was still in pain. I dont like the way the drugs make me feel and they dont help with the pain (and it costs a fortune) so I choose not to go now and just stay home in pain. I drink lots of water and cranberry juice and take Advil and throw up and curl up in a ball on the couch. I have been very fortunate that I seem to pass them quickly enough(4-6 hours) from my kidney to my bladder and that is where most pain is in women. Once they get to your bladder the urine does start to break them down and I have never seen one come out. I do think I passed one out once because of the way it kept feeling when I went to the bathroom. It was right as I would finish the stream and all of a sudden get this pain down low that would double me over, and make me feel as if I still needed to go more, but there was nothing there. It felt as if it was right at the opening and if I could have stuck tweezers in there and plucked it out..but no, you cant..lol.
I have had CT scans that measured them as 6 and 7 mm which they say is a nice size for a pearl but miserable for a kidney stone. Even one the size of a comma can be very painful.
I have had blood work that shows I have a problem with my parathyroid and need surgery to fix it. The parathyroid are 4 tiny glands in your thyroid that regulate the ammount of calcium your body produces and if one or more of those glands messes up it can trigger your body to start making calcium and not stop, and that is the reason I have kidneystones.

Try putting lemon in your water. This helps me when I'm passing a stone. My first one was back in '95 and up until a couple of months ago, they were progressively getting worse. I would pass 8-10 in a day. I'm now on medication and am supposed to drink 9 pints of water a day.

I hope you're able to pass it soon. I had one that took three weeks to pass. That was horrible! If it hasn't passed in the next day or two, go to your doctor and tell him/her that you were at the ER for a kidney stone and it still hasn't passed. They may have other ideas, or just send you straight to the hospital for surgery.

*hugs*

I have heard it said that if you drink warm water with lemon in it in the morning when you first get up that the acid from the lemon will help move the stone along/make sure there is enough water in your system to help flush it out.

Another way to flush out your system is to take lots and lots of Vit C. You can buy Buffered Vit C powder (2,000 mg) through vitacost.com. You take 1 tsp every hour on the hour and keep taking it until you fill better/pass the stone. One person said to continue taking it for 10 days; I'm not sure if you need to take it that long. The Vit C flushes out the system/urinary track. It also will help with inflammation.

When my husband had his kidney stone, he was made to pee it out; there wasn't anything they could do for him. The stone was small enough that it wouldn't obstruct or get stuck in the tube; it was just excruiciating to get it to pass. Some say having a kidney stone is worse than delivering a child.

It would be good if you could "catch" the kidney stone so that your doctor's lab could check to see what type is it. The type of stone will tell them what you should avoid eating/drinking in order to prevent any new ones from forming. My husband had the most common stone, one that is usually formed from drinking too much soda pop.
