I had peviously requested adice about a pregnany back in the beginning of November. Well, unfortunaly that pregnancy did not last, I had a miscarriage in Mid November. It's been really tough for me but I am picking up the pieces. My question is this. My OB said that everything was fine and that I can begin trying again, but I have yet to get my period. Does anyone know how long it might take for my period to start back up? Should I go back to my OB and have it checked out?

What can I do next?

Well, I didn't plan on writing anything, but seeing as no one else mention it I thought I should...

You can get pregnant again without having a period. Like someone else said, jsut don't stress about it. I know it's easier said then done!! To conceive my son we went through rounds and rounds of fertility treatments. So I know more then the next person that NOT stressing is hard!! But just try and not stress about it! Enjoy the process of getting pregnant!!

i had a m/c on oct 25. i was heartbroken. so i know how you are feeling. i am so so sorry you had to go threw that. i got my af nov.27 i was told i could try again as soon as i wanted to. but was told i should really let my body have 3 cycles first. that my chance for another m/c would be high if i didnt wait for 3 cycles.

A. first let me say I'm so sorry for your loss. I know exactly what you're going through. I had 3 miscarriages in a row before having a successful pregnancy (I had a physical medical reason for my losses that required surgery). While it is true that you can get pregnant before you even get a period after a miscarriage, I would recommend against that. I would wait until you have at least 1 period. The reason is that if you don't wait, then you have no LMP to go by to date your pregnancy by and that can make your next pregnancy more stressful because you might think you're this many weeks but the baby is only measuring this many weeks and then you could start thinking that something is wrong with the baby and it's not growing normally and that just leads to a ton of unneeded stress when the baby may be perfectly fine. Plus you may need that extra time to heal emotionally as well as physically. You need some time to let the lining of your uterus thicken up so it is better able to sustain a pregnancy. Now I'm not saying that if you don't wait, you'll miscarry again but I think it's better to wait 1 cycle. Every woman is different so it can take anywhere from 3-6 weeks from the time you stop bleeding (they say you should have 3 weeks of no bleeding before you concider your miscarriage complete). It depends on how far along you were and how long it takes your body to heal and also how much HCG was in your system and how long it takes to get down to zero. I would suggest that if you get to 8 weeks after you've completed your miscarriage and there is still no sign of a period, call your Dr. They may need to give you a medication to jump start you cycle. Good luck and I hope things work out for you in your next pregnancy.

In some cases the absence of period after a miscarriage can signal a molar pregnancy. I had a partial molar pregnancy (aka hydatidiform pregnancy)in 2001 and it took six months for my HCG levels to go back down and get my cycle back. I was only three days away from starting methotrexate when they finally went down to 'safe' levels. In some cases a molar pregnancy can be dangerous to you health so I would recommend you call your doctor to see how long they wait before testing your HCG level for complications. Molar pregnancy is pretty rare (1 in 2000 pregnancies, I think) so you are probably safe, but it never hurts to ask your doctor about it. I went on to have two more healthy pregnancies, so even if you do have a molar pregnancy, your fertility will probably not be affected.

Hi A., My name is K. I am a mother of a two year old little girl. About 4 years ago I also had a miscarriage. I was three and a half months the doctors found nothing wrong with the baby to this day they have no idea why I lost it. But I still live with the pain. So I am so sorry for your loss. But as far as the period it took up to 3 to 4 months for me to start getting one again my GYN told me that it takes that long for your body to go back to normal again cuz as far as your body knows it still thinks your pregnant. They also told me not to get pregnant for up to 6 months afterwards cuz they said that I was more likely to miscarry again cuz you have to let everything heal up. Well I hope my advice helped and once again I am sorry. And if you need someone to talk to I am here for you. My email is ____@____.com

I also miscarried in Nov 1998 and by January of 1999 I was pregnant again. My son was born in October. Don't worry about it, if you are stressing it will only make things worse. Believe me I know that it isn't easy but you have to be positive. You don't realize how many people you know have had the same problem until you have one. I had so many people come up to me and tell me not to worry they had a miscarriage too. I barely got my period back and I was pregnant. Don't stress...try to relax and just let it happen (I know it's hard to do).

Was there a cause determined for the m/c? Is it possible you have an underlying hormonal issue that's getting worse? Had your cycles been normal before?

Did you have a D&C? They don't like to tell you this but sometimes they can cause complications, like uterine scarring and cervical incompetence.
