How much time do you sleep at night?? Do you take naps? Do you have kids? How old are you?

I'm 36 years old SAHM and I always love to sleep... Of course all that stopped when my 17 month old son was born. Now I go to bed at 10pm and wake up several times at night... (I can hear every single noise in the house...again... started 17 months ago). It's very hard now to go back to sleep.... At 5am I'm awake and my son wakes up between 6 and 6.30am. I can't take anything to sleep because I have to be ready if my son needs me during the night (my DH works full time) I need to take a 30 - 40 min nap when he is napping so I can make it during the afternoon.... My son is very active....
Am I pretending too much?
Now I'm going to take a nap.... I'll check your responses after the nap... :)

What can I do next?

HAHA You're funny.
ONce I am up I can't go back down to nap unless I am sick.
Mine are all older. My 10 yo gets up about 7. The girls would sleep until noon if I let them. Usually I am up about 7-7:30, I go to bed at 11ish and watch the news.
When they were young my hubby would get up with them and feed them fruit and watch late night tv, Walker, MASH, Star Wars. I am a sound sleeper, thank goodness.

sounds about like what i do. i've been doing this pretty much since my daughter was born 7yrs ago. i'm 33 and a SAHM. some days i don't take a nap. mostly while the kids are playing, i'll lay on the couch so i can still hear them and dose. i have found that exercising works to perk me up in the middle of the day.

When I only had one kid, yeah I took naps. Now I have 3 and naps are out the window, so enjoy it while you can. I usually hit the hay around 12am, wake up with the baby around 2am, then again at 6am, then we go back to bed until 7-8am ish when the other kids wake up. How many hours is that? I dont even know. I figure I'll sleep when I die. :)

Oh, Im 28.

I'm 37 and I work full-time and have a 7 y/o and a 3 y/o. I go to bed between 10 and 11 and am up by 5:45. On the weekends I get to sleep in until 7 and hubby works weekends so it's just me and the boys. Very rarely do I get a nap :(
ENJOY your nap time!! I'm a little jealous!

Same as you ... LOVED to sleep before having my son.I could sleep as much as I wanted during the day and still sleep in the night. My son is 15 months now and after I had him , I wake up couple times in the night to feed him. But I can go right back to sleep.
There were days I couldn't go back to sleep. Those days I was taking a nap during the day. I just couldn't sleep well in the night even though I was very tired. Also, I was home all day , so maybe I wasn't getting enough exercise(my son was less than 6 months back then). So now, no matter what I don't take naps even if I am at home all day. It's horrible if I can't sleep well during the night esp with my son waking M. up so many times. I sleep like 11PM - 7 AM.
My suggestion is drop the afternoon nap and see how it works.

I'm 25 SAHM of a 11month old and an almost 3year old.
I LOVE to sleep, and I would probably get more if I wasn't so stupid haha
My lil girl goes to bed around 7pm, my son around 8pm. I most nights, go to bed around 11pm or midnight. Last weekend I didn't go to bed until 2am!

My daughter wakes up around 7am my son around 8am (weird how that works) I try to take naps, but most of the time i end up finding something else to do.
I really should make myself go to bed earlier, but dangit that is MY time.
No kids! Just me and my husband.
Thankfully both my kiddos sleep through the night. That helps haha

I'm 68 and have no kids at home. I wake up several times during the night for no known reason. I'm exhausted. Just a couple of weeks ago my doctor labelled this as insomnia. He suggested that I either have some sleep counseling or take trazadone 30 minutes before going to bed. I chose the latter for now. I'm to also have a sleep study to rule out sleep apnea. And I'm not allowed to nap. Napping disturbs night time sleep.

If your son is waking you up there is little you can do about it for yourself. Perhaps you can make changes that would allow your son to sleep better. However, it sounds like random noises are what is waking you up. As one mom suggested white noise might help you there.

I recommend that you treat this as a sleep disturbance, ie. insomnia and seek professional assistance. Trazadone does cause drowsiness but it doesn't interfere with waking up and dealing with your son. You may be groggy but you can still function adequately. I don't know about other sleep medications. There is the option of sleep counseling. You may find other ways to manage your environment so that you don't wake up as often.

I am getting better sleep with the trazadone. Haven't figured out the best dosage but am getting close. I'm still not as rested as I should be and so I may have apnea. That evaluation isn't until next month.

I also suggest that you may be hypervigilant with the responsibility of a baby. Perhaps you could work on feeling more confident that he is OK without the need for so much vigilance.

I sympathize with you. Not getting enough deep sleep is exhausting. Good that you're paying attention. Ask your doctor about it.

I LOVE SLEEP! I try to get like 10 hours... even if that means going to bed at or before 9PM ;) I'm like you, I hear everything... get a fan for your room (not the silent kind for your ceiling, one of those big obnoxious ones)... it's like white noise. Covers up the little stuff ;)

I sleep on average about 4-5 hours a night and DO take about a 2 hour nap during the day...I have two children (ages 17 & 12) who could sleep through a tornado...My husband gets up at 2:45am to be at work by 4am...So that is where my problem lies really. I get the girls to bed and get back up with him...There are times when I know I NEED sleep, so I will take Melatonin to force myself...I've been on this sleep schedule about 2 years now (I guess when I quit working). I love it though...I get so much housework and business stuff (for the house) done at the oddest hours.

I get 8 to 9 hours usually, If i dont get it during the night i will nap for an hour on the couch with my youngest. I fully believe in the power of a full nights sleep. statistics show that people who get their bodies fill (we all have our own sleep clock) are happier, healthier, eat better, have more energy, have better marriages, yell less, stress less....etc...

I'm a 40yr old SAHM with 2 daughters ages 2 and 5. I'm purposely up at 5 or 5:30 am so that I can have some morning coffee and "me" time before the girls are up. I say before in hopes that my 2yr old isn't up first, or that I don't wake her while crawling out of my bed having spent the last 3-5 hours with her kicking me constantly since arriving to our bed in the middle of the night!

Now,....since I'm up so early I'm usually tired around noon which happens to be the 2yr old nap time. During this time I try to lay down on the couch for about 30-45 min while my 5yr old gets her tv time, this allows me to rest a little and I usually am able to stay up a little later at night because of it. If I don't get my little nap then I'm super tired after baths and I myself can be found in bed by 9-9:30pm! :-)

I'm a 31 year old SAHM, I have a 6 year old and am 31 weeks pregnant. I am a terrible sleeper! Just another lovely trait to get from my Dad! :) I can't fall asleep...usually try around 10:30 but I am usually awake for another hour. I'm up at 7 when my daughter is in school and during the summer, it just depends! Then, like you, I wake to every freaking noise! The cats/dog can walk in the hallway and I'm going to hear it. And it really sucks when it storms! The second it rains or thunders, I'm up and up until the storm is over! I need a nap most days...I'm using my pregnancy as an excuse now!

I get 7 hours of sleep at night and no naps... work full time and then have "stuff" to do when I get home. My day starts at 5:30 and I'm up-and-moving until 10 or so at night. I'm 32 and according to my mother, I never really "required" much sleep!

Nope your not alone. The price of being a mom is that we all hear EVERYTHING! For my second kid i had my hubby buy me a sound machine. The white noise blocked out ay annoying noise and i was asleep in 5mins. Good sleep too. Still could hear the kids if door was open or if i turned the baby moniter on low. They werent cheap and i broke mine cause i took it everytime i traveled. Next one i get will be more sturdy.

Yes i often took naps with the baby while my other one was at school and on weekends my hubby gets to sleep in and then its my turn to rest. Naps are GREAT! We moms have alot of stress and do alot of work so a nap is perfectly fine.

I go to bed at 11 and wake up at 7. I try to take a nap on the weekend, but doesn't always work out. I plan for sleep. I love sleep. When I fill out a survey that asks my hobbys, sleep is the top of the list!
Try Melatonin. I get a great nights sleep on it, and wake up refreshed. I only take it when my husband is "on duty" at the house. I know if he is home, he will hear the kids and get up, so, I can take meltonin and get a good nights sleep. If he's out of town or very tired himself, I don't take it that night, so, I can be "on duty."

IDEALLY I get 7 hours most nights, and 12-15 once a week.

For the past few months? Eh. Keeping track is depressing. Not enough. Several 36 hour days with 4 hours and then another 36 hour day. About 2 weeks of 7 hours. A LOT of 2 hours here, 5 there, 7 here, 3 there. My mum took him one night and I slept for 10, woke for 6,and slept another 10. I sleep pretty decently in the hospital for the first week or two (because he's being monitored by someone else), and then my body starts complaining about the couch in the room and I can sleep until the meds wear off (about 5 hours). In both cases I wake whenever the alarms go off (sometimes several times an hour, sometimes not at all, and I just wake for vitals). Those are easy. One eye open, watch the monitors, and drift back to sleep. At home, I am the monitor, so I try and get half my sleep when he's awake (benefit of having an older kid), or when someone is with me (mom, friend, etc... my husband doesn't do monitoring since he leave right after he wakes up, and it's dangerous to wake him). We're having a lot more good nights, lately, so I've been sleeping more often/ regularly.

When we're not in medical mode, I usually go to bed around 2am and get up at 830. In medical mode I go to bed around 5am-6am and get up at 830 or 930.

The jehovah's witnesses always seem to come to the door when I'm laying on the couch catching a 2 hour nap while my son watches a movie, or when one of my husband's friends decides to stop by. Looking STELLAR there R.. Mom of the year.

I LOVE SLEEP!!!! Before having kids I could easily sleep until noon! Now my dear children (ages 2 & 3) get me up with the sun. I try to get 8 hours of sleep/night. If I don't get 8 hours, I feel lousy the next day. I'm 27, a SAHM. No naps for me b/c nap-time is the only break I get all day! :-)
