I would like to buy a jogging stroller to use with my newborn, and would prefer one where the front wheel swivels but has a locking option. It seems like all of the ones that I have found are for ages 6 months+. does anyone have a recommendation? I do not want to use my infant car seat in the stroller, just put the baby into the stroller! Thanks.

Excellent question about what I want to use the stroller for - I want to use it for walking, on the streets but also on some more uneven surfaces. Hard packed trails that will have some bumps and loose gravel.

What can I do next?

Personally, I wouldn't put a newborn in a stroller like that. There is no suport or cushioning for them like there is in the carseat. A new born isn't going to be able to stay upright by themselves. I didn't even let DS sit in the regular stroller without his carseat until he was 5 or 6 months old and sitting up well on his own.

I have both the Bob Revolution single and the Duallie. LOVE them both. When I had just my son, I used the single as my everyday and jog stroller. When both kids were in two I used the Duallie as my everyday and jog stroller. And now that both kids are older, I use the single for long walking trips to the amusement park.

Like others have mentioned, your newborn is too young to safely support him/herself in a jog stroller. They just aren't made with all the cushion and head support to handle all the bumps during a jog or bumpy terrain walking. I waited until my daughter was 3 months old before putting her directly into the single Revolution in the reclined position for walks and she was probably about 6 months old before we jogged with her in the Duallie. I never used the carseat adapter. I didn't get our single Revolution until my son was a year old. We waited to get our Duallie until my daughter was 5 months old because we were waiting for the Labor Day Sale at REI.com. They mark down the BOB's by 20%.

Just a suggestion: Is there anyone that can watch your baby while you walk? You might have to change your schedule and walk at a different time, but for now, that's probably the safest thing for your newborn. It's just for a few months until he/she can hold their head up and have better control of their body. Once that happens, it's safe for them to be bumped around in the jog stroller. The only other solution would be to buy the carseat adapter and have your baby strapped safely into their carseat while you walk.

Another option would be to put your baby in a ergo, maya wrap, or kelti backpack while you walk. I used to push my son around in the single Revolution and wear my daughter in her Maya Wrap until she was about 6 months old. Most infants love to be close to their Mama and squished inside a carrier or sling...makes them feel like they are back in the womb, especially if they can press their ear up to your chest and hear your heart beat.

Do you want the stroller for actual jogging or do you prefer the use of a jogging stroller for your everyday needs?

Most jogging strollers are rated 6+ months because before then the baby doesn't yet have the head/neck strength and stability to withstand the bumps while running. Some people will use a jogging stroller with an infant car seat accessory kit and do their jogging that way because the infant is still snug and secure and (potentially) protected from the bumping as a result of uneven pavement. If you're looking for walking or just general use of a stroller, you may be able to put the baby in the stroller, strap him/her in and go.

As far as strollers go, I have a BOB Revolution (although it is a Duallie) and I LOVE it! The front wheel both swivels and locks and it is so easy to push while jogging.

We bought the Zooper Boogie stroller. Front wheel swivels and locks, seat can lay totally horizontal which is what you need for a newborn (no neck muscles), rubber tires. However, we used it primarily for exercising around our house and neighborhood; occasionally we put it into the car and drove to the trails at the lake, but a drawback is that this stroller folds down big & bulky and its heavy.

This was not the stroller I snapped her carseat into; this isn't the stoller I took to the mall... I had another stoller for that. Again, this one was for exercising. Its durable and we've never had any workmanship issues. I used it for my daughter up until she was 3 and then refused to sit in a stoller.

I know you say you don't want to use a infant car seat...but I think most you need to for at least awhile.

My recommendation is to get the BOB Revolution, just do it, you will not be disappointed, it will be your everything stroller. It is amazing. I went through 5, yes 5 other strollers before the BOB, luckily I didn't lose money. But I definitely lost time, hassle and stress. Just get the BOB, you won't regret it.

I'm sure you get it by now but those strollers are rated 6mo+ because baby is to delicate and fragile before then to be jostling around while you jog or run.
Wearing baby is a GREAT way to walk the trails!
