JFF- What's Your Favorite News Source?

My husband and I always have NPR on in the car. We read the NYTimes and the Washington Post every day. I have to scan local newspapers for information for my job (but I don't really enjoy it because the writing is under par and the content is lacking..just being honest :)). About once a week we watch NBC Nightly News, but we don't really like to watch televised news channels..however, we rarely miss an episode of the Daily Show with Jon Stewart.

How about you?

So What Happened?

Aaaw, party pooper, Tracy K!! I see your point..The Daily Show and Colbert Report are not news per se, but if you don't know what's going on IN the news, then you can't fully appreciate the jokes, right? :)

I'm with you - public broadcasting (mostly KQED/NPR), the Daily Show and Colbert Report. Occasionally BBC or Al Jazeera English. I was surprised the first time I saw Al Jazeera - it's a legitimate news agency. They have some great documentaries on regions other news corporations don't have access to. They try to tell the story of the oppressed. While not the most objective, their view point is representative of many and often insightful. The Comedy Central shows are obviously comedic entertainment. But all news shows' primary purpose is entertainment. John Stewart and Stephen Colbert catch me up on what is being covered on other news channels. God love them!

I love John Stewart and Stephen Colbert. I go to bed with those guys everynight! But ladies....that's not news. It's parody, farce, comedy. Yes, they discuss the news, but it's for entertainement purposes only!

I listen to Fox News, NPR, CNN, MSNBC..I like Jon Stewart too!!

I don't read the NY Times as they are just like the National Enquirer!

I read the Wall Street Journal (on-line) and read the Washington Enquirer, the Onion (LOVE THAT!!) and Huffington Post for laughs...

NEWSER, HUFFINGTON POST, REDDIT, POLITICO, DAILY BEAST

I never miss an episode of the Daily Show and will usually watch the rerun in the afternoon here..just because we can not have it too loud at night..so I miss a punch line or two.

Jon Stewart is real enough for me!
Seriously, with the state of things in this world and nation I NEED to laugh.
And he has the most intelligent, interesting guests! I love hearing all the different points of view and I appreciate the way it all stays so thoughtful and civilized, even when there's a deep, fundamental disagreement.
I watch my local news every morning with my coffee. I check in with the local paper online almost every day (the San Francisco Chronicle) but I don't read that much of it.

My husband. He lets me know what's going on in the world today, the parts that he thinks I'll be interested in, the parts I need to know, and the rest of the just general heartbreak, he leaves that stuff out.

Honestly, I'm pretty thick-skinned about just about everything, but when it comes to actual world-news, after September 11th, I was ruined. Especially after my husband deployed. I couldn't watch it at all then.

I love NPR and the NYTimes which we get on the weekends only. On a daily basis though I use Google News online. I think the Daily Show is hilarious for a good laugh! Thanks for reminding me to download a few of those and watch them! :) Oh yes and also the BBC on the radio as well.

BBC and CNN.
The BBC will report on things that no US news source will touch especially about our own country.
I use to live where we could watch news through Canadian stations and I really liked it.
The last news reporter I totally liked and trusted was Walter Cronkite.
Media from the US seems watered down, controlled, sensationalized.
They'll spend weeks reporting over and over on something totally stupid and take attention away from other things that slip away with little notice.

The BBC

http://www.bbc.co.uk/ is my homepage

It's almost exactly opposite of American News Media. TONS of good news (instead of all-depressing-all-the-time or Hype! Hype! Bias! demonizing of the "other" party), really interesting news from all spheres (sciences, arts, politics -of MANY nations, ours included, which is odd-, technology, history) the most "journalistic integrity" of any source I've seen in a LONG while, not having to wade through bogs superfluous info to find what you're looking for... the list goes on.)

The Boston Globe (boston.com) because it's a good local paper. The Daily Show instead of the evening news unless something really big is going on that I need to see locally (usually weather or sports).
