I had a Paragard IUD inserted 7/27/11. It was inserted while on my period. I had been using the pill properly prior to insertion of IUD. I have had a lot of thick milky discharge since placement. For the past two days my breasts have become very tender/sore. I can express a small amount of clear fluid, similar to the stuff you get before your milk comes in after childbirth. I never have tender breasts unless I'm pregnant. I took a home pregnancy test today and it was negative. Could I be pregnant? Could the copper in the IUD be producing these symptoms? I will call my dr tomorrow but I'm very worried. I am on some medications that would not be good for pregnancy, I had an alcoholic drink a couple days ago and I had to take my son for an xray(I was in the room with him). All not good if I am pregnant! I don't see how I could be, but these breast symptoms are very abnormal for me. By the way I did have a normal mammogram (I'm 41) earlier this year. Any thoughts?
My mom got pregnant with my sister in 1980 with an IUD in perfect position...at least according to her OBGYN...she was born in June 1981. if it was a hormonal version, I would say less likely but since I believe Paragard is non hormonal, I would say sincerely possible!
My vote is that its just your body adjusting to the device.
When I had my IUD inserted, I had discharge as well. I vote for your body adjusting to the device. It kind of screws with your body, even a non-hormonal one cause it's something foriegn in there.
You had it inserted four days ago and you think you are already having pregnancy symptoms? Did you put the wrong date there?
I would also think it's your body adjusting to the IUD. I got the Mirena IUD almost 3 years ago and found it really uncomfortable for about a month... and now I love it. I'd take another pregnancy test or two just to be sure as it can cause harm to an unborn baby if you get pregnant with an IUD... (pregnancy tests can give a false negative if it's early on)- but give it a week or so. Just an FYI- I kept taking PG tests as I never got my cycle again- turns out a good percentage of women don't get it when they're using an IUD, or at least with Mirena (not sure if it's a class effect). It's great! I haven't had it since before I got pregnant with our twins almost 4 years ago!
Seems a bit early to have such symptoms of pregnancy, but I'm with you...the only time my breasts hurt that bad was with two pregnancies. My cousin got pregnant with an IUD in place...that was 6 years ago. I'm not sure what brand. One alcoholic drink is not going to hurt anything so early...takes awhile for the egg to even implant into the lining and start being directly connected to your blood supply. I got pretty darn buzzed 5 days after conception (before I knew I was expecting) and he's healthy as can be. As for the xray, it's so localized and they make you stand at a safe distance, pregnant or not. If you are pregnant, please don't worry about those two things. I'd mention the Rx to your Dr. when you talk with him/her...in the mean time can you skip it for the next week or two until you know for sure? Seems the prudent thing to do just in case you are with baby.

I got preg. on an IUD, but it was three decades ago and they've changed since then.
Every time I've thought I might be pregnant, and a home pregnancy test told me it was negative, it was negative. You're probably not pregnant.
Its normal for IUD to change your body symptoms and give you pregnancy/period type stuff as your body adjusts. Give it a few weeks--if you still feel this way, take another test and go in for an exam. GL
