Issues with Vomiting

Hi...

My daughter has been having some issues and I am not sure what the reasoning could be. I'll also be calling pediatrician tomorrow. But my son & daughter have been overcoming colds. They both still have sniffles/stuffiness. 3 times in the past 5 days when my daughter has become upset (crying for more than 5-10) minutes she'll have an Exorcist (aka Linda Blair) vomiting session. She has done two nights in a row (tonight being 2nd) and once after lunch. This has also happened a few other times but not with such consistency. Anyone else experience this? What could be causing this? When she eats she doesn't seem to have issues. She hasn't seem to have had issues with any of the foods I have given her. She never had reflux issues in the past and once again, it only seems like when she has been upset. Anyone?

What can I do next?

Hi Nicole. I too have the same problem with my son and one of my daughters. They get themselves sooooo upset that they vommit and it's so gross. I wouldn't worry. The doctors probly right. It's a sensitive gag reflex. Sorry for all the clean up you have to do. If it helps, just know that we have to do it to.

ya know what just recently my daughter (15 months) she had rsv and neumonia (spelled wrong) and as she was getting over it whenever she would get realy upset she would vomit all over, i truely believe it is just from flem, and also i don't know about you but whenever i have a cold my sinuses drain into my stomache and it makes me feel very sick to my stomach so i believe it is a combination of that and milk, also sometimes when madisyn gets very upset she will cry so hard she will make herself vomit i think it is just a way of getting my attention or maybe she just is crying that hard, it is so hard when they are little to know what is going on cause they can't tell you "mommy my tummy hurts" ya know, as long as they are not running a high fever though im sure they will be ok, i would still definately call the doctor though, because you just never know

I have issues with my son vomiting. He too will vomit when upset/crying and also when congested. The Pediatrician keeps telling me he has a sensitive gag reflex. But we were concerned enough that we went through a complete upper GI and it came back fine, no reflux, no blockages, etc. My son tends to vomit in the morning with the congestion, but the being upset can happen anytime. It isn't fun...I know!

Yup, sounds about right. You have yourself a classic drama mama. This is what I call my baby girl. She can work herself into vomiting. She is not doing it on purpose, she just gets herself worked up and the vomit is a result. Do not worry and when she vomits, do not react, just clean up and give her a kiss. Be calm and she will follow. Good luck!

Hi Nicole!

My son will have one of these enormous vomiting sessions at least once every other week at bedtime. Sometimes he just doesn't want to go to bed and as soon as I put him in the crib and leave the room, he starts crying and stands up and projectile vomits all over the room. I don't worry too much about those episodes (except that the clean up sucks).

However, since she is also getting over a cold and this has happened several times in just a few days, I think you are making the right decision to check with her doctor. It is possible her cold has developed into a secondary infection that needs to be treated.

Good luck!
L.
