Is There Something Wrong with My Baby?

There is nothing wrong with your son! Motor skills and cognitive skills have their own developmental timetables. It is not important how your child is measuring up to others his age, what is important is that he is progresing at his own steady rate. Where language is concerned infants develop receptive language first, which is why he seems to acknowledge your talking and singing. A first word can be expected between 12 to 18 months. First words are typically names of primary caregiver and/or favorite items. This level of development is quickly followed by two word sentences like "doggie gone" "car go", etc. You are doing the right things.Continue to sing and read to him and be sure to verbally label his environment to help build his vocabulary. By the way, I am a mother of 3, and an Early Childhood Professional, currently taking college courses on this very subject! ;)

Just remember every baby is differnt and he'll talk when he ready my daughter now 3 didnt walk and craw until late but was talking early! he's fine nothing to worry about ;)

No, there's nothing wrong with him. I wouldn't expect a baby that age to be talking. Be patient. We parents want so badly for them to talk and once they are about 2.5 we start telling them to shut up. :-)

You are doing nothing wrong. All kids progress differently. Give him time.

All children advance differently, I would not worry. My son who is now 3 1/2 years old was advanced for a baby. He rolled over on his own at 5 days, was crawling at 5 months, and walking at 9 months. However, he did not talk until the age of 2, up until then he only said about 10 words and most were not even real words but sounds he would say and I would know what he meant. Shortly after his 2 nd birthday and started saying more and more to the point now he does not stop talking. My husband was the same way as an infant.

it can be frustrating trying to "keepup" with friends babies. as long as you think he can hear and see you, hes fine. it may just take him longer, and as previously advised, he may end up more gifted than them all! good luck, be patient!

No, I would not say there is anythign wrong wtih him. All babies develop diffferently. My oldest son is 3 years old and he still is having ALOT of trouble talking. Like you really have to sit down and listen to what he says because some words he can not prounounce correctly. I would not worry about anything until he's at least 2 years of age or 1 1/2 years old.

My son didn't say mama until he was 19 months old (he's a gifted 3rd grader now) and my daughter was saying 2 word sentences by her first birthday. Most kids don't talk much until after their 1st birthday. Just because your child is advanced in motor skills and other areas doesn't mean he'll be advanced in everything.
