Is IPOD Touch a Good Option to Replace a Family Video Camera

I would love any advice on people who have the new IPOD touch and if they use it as a video camera? Does it have the ability to zoom in when taking video? What is the quality? I am trying to decide if it would be better to purchase this rather than a video camera since it is so versatile. I would mostly use the video camera on the IPOD touch for videoing my family's events. Thanks for your help.

What can I do next?

my two 18 and 16 year old daughters have had ipods since they came out with the touch they are on the third gengeration .as far as i know of its the last one but it wouldnt surpise my if there another this christmas coming out. but it is very good rescouse for video making , my girls have made some good video ,they can take picture better then a professional on thier ipod, it has zoom and many more things you can do. im not sure about night time recording . ill have to ask my pro's when they get home later.lol.they can take a pic. and turn thier hair eyes and anything a different color photos look like glam shots when the get done, and video are just as good.i would read about how long of record time before you buy it .thats the only thing i would say check out. but if i could go back in time i wouldnt of gave my kids one this at a young age. because they are on the internet all the time. it can make also be used as your main computer also. that little handheld device can do so amazing things ,but if you have kids do let them become dependent on this device. i took my kids cell phone and they turned thier ipod into a cell phone they can text and even get thier own phone number and make calls . so when i learn this i have to take the ipod and cell phone at the same time. it has app on it just like a cell phone if you do buy one check out the video app you can downlaod to make a better video, change the video .but like i said if this is for a child i wouldnt or i would only let them use it maybe on trips to town ,vacations ,or limit the time of use. i make mine put thiers up at 10 pm .hope this helps answer your question,

I agree with the others. I have two that I use for music and FaceTime and might take a photo or video when nothing else is available but it is not good quality for keeping or sharing.

I LOVE my iPod touch and do lots with it; however, I would never use it for important photos or video. The camera on it is <1 megapixel (most decent cameras these days are >10). So, it's handy if you don't have your camera with you, but it is not high quality. It does not zoom or correct for lighting.

No - absolutely not. We have an iPod touch and an iPhone. The cameras on both are great for those quick pictures that you want to take when your real camera isn't handy. And the ability to take videos is so great. But the quality is NOT anywhere near a digital video camera. It absolutely will not work in low light settings (everything is super grainy) and there's no zoom.

No. Its more for taking quick videos to post online, not for any quality videos to preserve memories. I'd get a video camera.
