I know, it's dumb. It just cracks me up, 'cause it's so over the top. I already made the mom formerly known as Prince reference.

It kind of reminds me of middle school/high school when a select few girls start doing something and then OMG!! Like, we TOTALLY have to start doing that too!!!!! LOL! Its all in good fun!!

I think it is cute. Lots of people are insinuating it is childish or immature. But to me it reminds me of Tattoos.

Once you start it is hard to stop.. Of course you notice I do not have any symbols for the same reason I do not have any Tattoos.. I am too fickle and cannot decide which symbols I want to use and know I would change my mind.. Same with a Tattoo, I have never been able to decide what I would want on my body for the rest of my life or even where I would place it.. So I will just go with.. "I do not mark the Temple."

But no it does not bother me.. It actually made me laugh when people told

You do know in Austin... Our slogan is "Keep Austin Weird" I guess here it is "Keep Mamasource fun!"

Changes are often a bit hard to adjust to at first. I'm not 'annoyed,' but maybe a little alarmed; if these symbols are overdone, they will no longer be unique signatures, and it will become harder to recognize 'familiar' names. I'm a graphic designer and former sign designer, and have studied for years what communicates and is memorable.

One or two symbols in a name might enhance and actually help me notice/remember certain posters. And one or two carefully chosen symbols can actually tell me a little bit more about that mom's personality. More than that makes a name harder to read. A whole string of symbols will be unique and recognizable for awhile unless quite a few posters start doing the same thing, and then, at least to me, all those names will just look like tossed salad sprinkled on the page.

Especially for me, perhaps, because as I've aged, my eyes tend to be jumpy when I try to focus on small detail. (With this problem, it's even hard for me to make it through a long post that is one long 'paragraph,' without line breaks that allow the eye or brain to pace and refresh.)

I don't really care what screen name a person uses as long as it's readable and I can recognize it. I get a good feel for person's personality by reading what they write. But there are quite a number of moms whose posts I seek out because I enjoy them.

There are about a zillion fonts of symbols and MOST of those have about 4 variations depending on lc, caps, shift cap, control shift cap.....this is just the beginning!
Personally, I like it.
I think it jazzes us up a bit...
(I thought ℜ❀$eღud❧ symbol-name was quite readable! Can you see it now? lol)

For the most part all I see are a bunch of little boxes, so yeah...it's kinda annoying. If I actually saw the *symbols*, then probably not :)
