We live near O'Hare and I'm interested in starting my 5 yr old girl in Irish dance. Does anyone have any experience with Trinity or Mullane dance schools (or another?) I'd love to hear your opinions/experience.

What can I do next?

My daughter dances for Mullane Healy O'Brien, so I'm a little bias but, you might want to go and watch a class at each school first. I can tell you that Trinity is HUGE (number of dancers and in class size); at Mullane, the class size is not that big. At Mullane, all of the teachers are certified; I've heard at Trinity that they have some of the older dancers teach the younger ones- also due to the big class size.
But I would call each school and ask to come and watch a class to see what its really like. You might want to ask around at your daughter's school also. If she goes with a friend she might like it even more. Most irish dance schools run their lessons the same as the school year - so classes won't be starting until the end of this month or the beginning of September. My daughter (12) started dancing 4 years ago and is passionate about it! Good luck!

We go to Trinity and love it!
They have a lot of extra activities the kids can do if they want to -- parades, shows, etc. And there isn't any push to do them, it's only if the kids want to. My oldest loves being a trinity girl and the younger ones can't wait until they are old enough to do it too. We started at 4. We just received the renewal registration.. the locations closest to you for classes would be Chicago/Northwest Irish Heritage Center Mondays 5:45-6:30 (obviously the closest) but if that day/time doesn't work, Elmhurst is Sundays 12:15-1; Arlington Heights and Lakeview are Thursdays 3:45-4:30. Our class in Elmhurst is very small.. about 6 kids or so. I can't speak to the other locations or older age group sessions.
I'm sure she'll enjoy it!

I have two daughters (13 & 11) who have been dancing with Trinity for 6 years! They LOVE it and we're very happy with Trinity Academy. They are great with communication and are NOT pushy. They have a dance locations in Arlington Hts., Downers Grove, Western Springs, Lakeview and (maybe) at Irish American Heritage Center. Give them a call ###-###-####

My daughter danced with Trinity in Arlington Hts. until hIgh school. She loved it and I thought all of the teachers were invested in teaching the girls and great at getting the most out of them. Good Luck!
