iPad Vs Samsung Tablet

We are trying to figure out which one to buy for our family. We have been comparing the iPad and the Samsung tablet, but unsure which is best. We want it for mostly entertainment for kids, play movies and game, drawing, taking picture etc. it seems that you can do and have a lot more with a tablet. Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

What can I do next?

I love my Samsung tablet. Cheaper than iPad, does all that you mentioned, and my two boys (5 and 2) love to play with "mom's big phone".

Mine is the 7" model, my hubby has the 10".

Wow, that sounded vaguely dirty.

Anyway, I would go with the Samsung and save the extra cash.

I think the android marketplace is WAY better then apple. I have a Samsung Galaxy tab and an ipod touch. I like the touch OK, but I am severely disappointed with the app store. I think the android market is more varied, more open, and more creative. Another plus about the Samsung, is that you can buy 2 tablets for what the Ipad costs. There would be less time management and more to go around.

Apple definitely has a high quality product, but I find it severely lacking in the marketplace department. We've found the Samsung to be a very high quality product, as well. Look up reviews of both on youtube. People give very in depth reviews, and show you just what the tablets can do.

**My husband is a designer and programmer. He, as well as all his co-workers prefer the android market. My husband doesn't have time to, but several co-workers develop for the android. They develop dome for apple, but don't care for the market as much.

I'd look at the price and features of both. The ipad is pricey-are there more features on it that you'd use that would make it worth it? Our family has Kindle fire HD tablets. Ipads are great, but the kindles do everything we want/need for less than half the price.

Don't personally have either one...

My girlfriend has an iPad. It takes great pictures...however - since there is no USB port - downloading is not as easy...I think you have to e-mail them. Don't quote me on that!!

My sister has a Samsung - she love it. There is soo much she can do with it.

You should be able to go to the store and compare them side-by-side!

good luck!

Samsung - less proprietary in regards to music, apps, etc; cheaper; and just as powerful as the iPad. When you pay for Apple products, you are paying mainly for the name. We actually have the large and small kindle since all my music, videos are through Amazon. I have Amazon prime so you can stream many movies/tv shows. The bigger kindle has a HDMI connection so you can connect it to your tv if it has a HDMI connection. It is my understanding that the iPad only has it's proprietary cable.

I forgot to mention that my better-half has a samsung and he loves it. Technically speaking, the android market - especially samsung, has out surpassed Apple. There have been several tech articles in the last few months stating how "stale" apple products have become considering the price range.

We have iPads and love them! (My husband has an Android phone that he hates, and our schools was getting iPads so we didn't consider anything else.)

You can get lots of free apps for kids--both educational and fun. Some of them are lite versions that are free and then you have to pay $.99 to unlock all of it. I like that because I can be sure the game is worth paying for. We probably have 100+ apps on each iPad and probably paid more than $.99 for 1/4 of them.

I'm not sure what the previous poster meant by Apple products not having as much development as Android. I've heard (from app developers) that Apple is easier to develop for. They have some stricter "rules" for developers to follow, but I think that leads to higher quality apps. There are several apps that we have for the iPads that my husband can't get for his Android phone, or they become available for Android several months after they were available for Apple.

If you have a Netflix account you can watch movies on the iPad. You can also rent or buy movies from iTunes but we have only done that a couple of times.

I use it for photos and taking videos when I don't have my camera with me. It doesn't take great photos if you are zooming in on something, but for close up it is good. I think you can find apps that will improve the picture quality, but I have a nice camera if I'm taking serious pictures.

I hardly ever use our computer anymore. I do email, Facebook, and Pintrest on the iPad. My calendar is also on my iPad. The only thing I don't use it for is word processing and spreadsheets.

The only thing that has been frustrating is Apple customer service. If you haven't purchased the "right plan" they won't help you with problems. But we have never had issues with the iPads. We had called them about an iPod.

I've never used any other tablet (other than a Nook which I don't like for apps) so I don't have anything to compare it to, but I wouldn't give up my iPad. In fact I want another one that I won't have to fight my kids for!

We have an iPad. Love it and all of the Apple products we have.
Superior.

And you're getting some misinformation here...it Does have a USB port. You just connect the wall end (slips out if outlet plug) to the USB port in your computer. So easy peasy to transfer you pix.

I got an iPad and at the same time my husband got the Samsung Galaxy tablet. After a few weeks, he announced (and I agree) the iPad is superior (hard for him as he is more of an anti-Apple guy) when it comes to entertainment. There are far more apps and things for children (and in general) on iPad... especially Disney games and books. We let our 4 year old daughter play with it and she always asks for the iPad over the Galaxy because of this. If you have an iPhone it makes sense to stay in the same family of products as well... apps you buy will synced on your 2 devices as well as any photos and videos you take. Overall, for entertainment I say iPad has the strongest advantage, and this comes from a house with kids and both devices.

If you are looking to use it mostly as entertainment rather than as a tool, then I would go with the iPad personally. I have the mini and it is fought over in the number 2 slot right behind my imac desktop.

The kids have their own Toshiba laptops but rarely use them.

Gosh I love my ipad. If you are using it to be a media consumption device, then the apple store beats android hands down. There is NOOOO contest! Plus the ipad is just a better device in every way. Unless you are a techie, then you will like the galaxy, because it has more memory and is expandable. To me it's not worth having a slightly less sharp screen, and not such a nice scrolling experience.

Take a look at what the different apps will cost you with each version.... I know there are BUNCHES of free apps available for the tablets/android items.

I know iPad items/Apple items are very popular, but there doesn't seem to be as much independent development/free development on them as on the android devices..... and they seem to be over-priced compared to android items.

We are looking at the new Nexxus7 tablet... we have a 10" tablet (hubby's tablet) and he is looking at the 7" tablet for me.... we prefer the android systems.
