Insurance - Sacramento,CA

We are new to Sacramento just moved here about 2 months ago. Where we use to live (still in ca) they had a program for women without insurance to see their doctor once a year for their check up (pap smear and what not). I was wondering if there was something like that here. I was going to wait until my husband got insurance at his work(3-6 months??) but Im a little worried. I am about 2 months late with getting my period. Im not pregnant Ive taken 3 pregnancy test. I was nursing my daughter but stopped about 4 months ago. Ive had 1 period since I stopped nursing and that one was about 3 weeks late. Any help would be great Im starting to get worried.

What can I do next?

There are lots of community programs to help women in circumstances such as yours. One program I've used is The Birthing Project. They not only offer prenatal care, but they also do STD testing, pap smears and offer family planning services. They have a similar program in place to do your annual pap smear if you don't have insurance. Here's some contact info for them:

LOCATION: 1900 "T" STREET, SACRAMENTO, CA 95811
TELEPHONE: ###-###-####
WEBSITE: http://www.birthingprojectsac.org/

I hope this helps! :D

I looked up Sacramento Community Services online and came up with a list that said Sacramento Community Services Directory. Here is one site I looked into just a bit that appears to have some answers for you. At least it's a place to begin.

You might also try calling social services to ask, or possibly make a call to Child Action. They can likely direct you to the best place near you.
I hope this helps.

There are a couple programs. One is just throught the state, it's for the lowest income brackets. If your husband works, you probably earn too much for it, but you can just go to the Social Department in your county.
The next step up is called AIM (Access for Infants & Mothers) Here is the web site: http://www.aim.ca.gov/Home/default.aspx
Apparently they are very helpful and will do everything they can to help you with what you need.
Let us know how it all turns out.
Best wishes -

There are several programs/agencies that provide free or low cost health insurance. Start at your local Family Resource Center to see what they have or can recommend. Sacramento also has a wonderful free phone service for referrals to social services and other resources - just call 211 from your phone in Sacramento County. Good luck - J.
