Insurance - Rowlett,TX
Hello everyone,
I have a 15 yo son who is turning 16 next Thursday. We have already purchased him a car and are looking for insurance on it and it is just outrageous. We live in the Dallas area and I am looking for some reasonable insurance on the car and could use full coverage but might do liability if we have to. With gas prices so high and being that we spent more than we originally wanted to we would prefer to get something as cheap as possible. Thanks for your advice.
So What Happened?™
Just wanted to let everyone know that my husband has found some insurance that if we change both of our cars and our homeowners our pricing will only go up about a hundred dollars and that is full coverage. I am very excited. Now it is for my son to find a job. I am sure he won't have to much of a hard time. He is a great kid and very responsible. Thanks for everyones input. It was a great help.

Please call my friend, William Timmerman - he is an agent with Farmers and does such a great job - has very, very good rates. He can be reached at ###-###-####. Please tell him that N. Creuzot referred you. You won't be sorry that you called him.

Good morning, C.,
Be prepared for many more years of "sticker shock" insurance. Young men have the highest rated insurance, because statistically they have the most accidents of any group. Until your son turns 23, his insurance will be high.
We have 2 boys, aged 19 and 20, and we just had them quoted by The Hartford, which gave us the best rate for full coverage insurance, around $200/month.
Unless you buy liability only, there's no better deals out there for insurance for young, single males.
Good luck.

My dad owns an insurance agency and always has the cheapest rates. You should give him a call, he can give you a quote right over the phone.

My son got a truck a few months ago and he has liability only and with my husband added as a driver it is like $111.00 a month through Safe Auto. Good luck. I feel your pain. We also have twin boys who are 18 and one has the truck and the other one will be getting a vehicle soon.

Any insurance for a teen will be sky high. We have a 13 yr old and we are already building that expense into her savings, etc. We already have her car, we will be dealing with insurance.
That said, when trying to save money, please do not cut vital benefits to save a dollar. Read the fine print on the cheapest policies you find to make sure he is fully covered.
Just my two cents worth....Good luck

Try Amica Mutual Insurance, 1-800-242-6422. They don't have agents, you deal directly with the company. We have been with them for 41 years; they have always been extremely easy to deal with on claims, etc. We have shopped around a few times over the years and always found Amica to be a better deal. Of course, ask for a quote on exactly the same coverage for exactly the same coverage period (6 mon., 1 yr)as asked for from others. Amica generally has quoted us based on 1 yr coverage, and has sometimes appeared to be more expensive, when upon closer reading of the quotes, the others quoted 6 mon coverage.
If you or your husband have a military (or federal, I think) background, you might look at USAA. Our dtr was in the Navy and swears by USAA. Good luck.

Let's face it, car insurance for teens is not cheap.
We use AAA Insurance and insure our home and autos with them. My husband researched and felt they were the cheapest for the benefits.
Good luck on your search.

PS We told our kids they need to pay for their own insurance and gas at the beginning. This has given them a healthy respect for how much it truly costs to own and run a vehicle. It really affects how they approach using the vehicles and how they drive.

C.,
I use Traveler's Insurance. They are a great, established company and don't have the high rates like State Farm or Farmer's. My agent is Brian Rawlins and he is great. He will help you tailor a policy for your needs and he is great with customer service. His number is ###-###-####. I hope this helps!
