My parents have had our kids all summer while DH & I moved down and started getting settled in the new house & work. The original idea was to have my parents keep the kids just for 2-3 weeks, then come down and spend the summer with us so we wouldn't have to find summer care. However, some things happened with the folks' house, and they haven't been able to bring the kids. Now it looks like maybe the 1st of Aug. will work, but they still won't be able to stay until school starts. So, is there some sort of inexpensive care we can line up for them just for about the 2nd & 3rd week of August? We live in NE Kissimmee, just S of Orlando International Airport, so anything out in that area would be preferable. Lake Nona, E. Kissimmee, Narcoossee, N. St. Cloud, and so on.
FINALLY got my kids and put them both in the nearest daycare center that provides summer camp for school-aged kids. They've only been there 3 days, but if I continue to like the school as much as I do now, I'll definitely post a review!
Maybe you could see if any of your co-workers have responsible teenagers who would be willing to come supervise your kids, and earn a little bit of money for back-to-school? You can start looking now and meet the babysitter beforehand. :)
Check with your local parks and recs department.
I would check with each city's recreation department to see if they have summer camps that you could enroll them in. They usually have a discount for multiple children and it will be a good way for your kids to meet some of the kids they will be going to school with prior to the first day.
Look for summer camps. We have lots of them around here that are just 1 or 2 weeks long.
Check with any local colleges/universities...they may have recommendations on reliable, responsible students who would like to make some extra money. Especially nice if you can find a student in a child-care related field. The advantage to using college students is that they have their license and can take the kiddos on 'outings'.
Local churches often have VBS and other day camp programs that are affordable...check around in your area.
