my first child arrived in September its a boy, and i have never been as afraid about anything as i am picking a doctor for him. my husband and i never go to the doctor i have had some very bad experiences in the past and fear the same for my child. i need to find a pediatrician who is going to explain everything he/she does to my child and is patient with the parents as well. any advice would be greatly appreciated.
We like Pediatric Specialists by DePaul Hospital in Norfolk. Dr. J. Holland just had her first child so I think she is really great at explaining what she is doing and answering any questions...the PA Melanie is also excellent! (everyone there is good).
My all time favorite pediatrician is Dr DeTriquet "Dr D". I think he is with Pediatric Specialists now. Their number is ###-###-####. My 4 year old loves him and she is tough! My baby has some special issues and he has always been loving, informed, reasonable. He explains everything I ask about. He is great with nervous moms and he is just laid back enough. He will listen if something is important to you. I have brought up things I wanted to try and he usually explains pros and cons and will usually support my decisions. I have yet to come up with something crazy, but I'm sure he would talk me down properly. :) I have referred him to many and all have been thrilled.
He is unwavering in his views about certain things, shots for example, but can always back himself up clearly and concisely.

I use Dr Johnsons! He is located in Building #5 in the Aragona village area of Town center here in Virginia Beach. I love them all. The nurses are extremtly helpful esp one named Tracy sh is a military wife and if you are miitary know all the rope of getting things taken care of. The 2 doctore Dolores and Robert are married and are the best I have foudn for my child around. Check them out@!

I take my daughter to General Booth Pediatrics, and she sees Dr. Michelle Wadsworth. She is very relaxed and easy going. I highly recommend her.
We absolutely love our pediatricians at Pediatric Specialists. They have an office in Norfolk, Virginia Beach and Chesapeake. Dr Fred Fink is the our boys' doctor and I have had nothing but wonderful experiences with all of the doctors and n.p.s we have seen there. Good luck. Most doctors offices are happy to set up a consult meeting with you if you would like to meet them before committing. Try a few offices and go with the one who makes you feel the most comfortable.
I have been taking my son to Pediatric Specialists. They have 2 offices, one at DePaul and one at Sentara Leigh. I have seen a handful of doctors there and they are all wonderful. The nurses are great too and they are really good about returning calls from the answering service. My son is 18 months old and we have had a few late night calls to the doctor! Good Luck
I am not sure where you are located, but Lakeview Pediatrics in Churchland (Portsmouth, VA) are WONDERFUL!!! We LOVE Dr. Gregory!!!!!
I take my boys to North Shore Pediatratic. I have been seeing the doctors there since my oldest was born. The doctors and the nurses there are really great. I really like Dr. Joyce the best and try to see him when we go in for visits. They have two locations. One is in Norfolk off of West Little Creek Rd and the other is in Va Beach off of Providence Rd. I have been going to the same pediatrician for about 13 years. Dr. Jaci Cotton with Va Beach Pediatrics, off First Colonial Rd. I started going there when my step ston was 6 (no 19. My other kids, now 10 & 7 go. I love them!
I take my 2 boys to Virginia Beach Pediatrics: 933 First Colonial Road. They see Dr. Choi. She is just great with the boys, they are not afriad of her at all. If we have any questions, she is great answering them. My oldest son actually has his annual check-up monday. She is also great on trying to fit you in, if you feel you need to take him in. They also have walk-in hours from 745am to 815am, but you don't get to see Dr. Choi. However the doctors are great. Their number is ###-###-####. We go to Vogel Ped's off of Independence Blvd. A little past Pembroke. Love it there.

I personally love General Booth Pedeatrics. My daughter seen Dr. Fontana. We've loved it there.
I have had nothing but great experiences with a group called Pediatrics @ the Beach ###-###-####). They are on Camelot Dr. in Va. Beach. Its a group of 6 or 7 doctors and i think they are the greatest. All three of my children have been seeing them since they day the first one was born.
