Hi all of you moms! My daughter just gave birth to a beautiful baby girl. She comes home today and she is terrified! Not of coming home but of letting the baby receive immunizations. The doctors and nurses has been literally harassing her about getting the baby immunized. My daughter had done some research about shots given to children in her first trimester, and she doesn't know what to do. Can you moms tell me which ones are needed and those that aren't needed?

Thanks

What can I do next?

I have not vaacinated my daughter and she is 28 months. She has had one ear infection the doc never gave her meds for, and she had rotovirus twice. Other then that healthy as a BULL. And i do contribute thast to the no vaccinations. The nurses docs etc will harass you and say aweful things to you to bully ypou into vaccinating. Tell her not to give in and if you awnt more info then you can email me at ____@____.com

Is her concern the vaccine or the mercury that used to be put in vaccines? I talked to my ped about any mercury based additive being put into any vaccine. She said their wasn't any. Also if she feels very strong about this she may want to find a pediatrician who will respect that and allow her to do it when she feels it is right. My friend waited till her child was a bit older. He had them and all is well now.

I have my kids on a delayed vaccination schedule. To me, the risks associated with the vaccines did not outweigh the potential benefits (for instance, there are more adverse reactions to Hep B vaccines in children each year than there are cases of Hep B). Especially in babies.

I would recommend finding a doc who supports you daughter's wishes. We go to Homefirst (homefirst.com) and they do not pressure you to blindly go along with guidelines without doing your research.

The one vaccine I would consider getting prior to next winter would be pertussis (whooping cough). I didn't personally get it for my kids but I did put some thought into it as pertussis is a very serious illness in young children.

Yes, the doctors were like little rats after a single piece of cheese the way they were swarming in my room after I told them I did not want my daughter to get her hepititis shot. Hmmmmm, why does a newborn need a hepititis shot? They do not! Babies are not at risk of getting hepititis, they do not have any behavior which would make them at risk. Just silliness. I did not vaccinate my baby in the hospital. I waited until she was two years old. I love my baby and I think vaccinations are a great thing. I agree with the vaccinations, but I think I will let my baby get the flu and chickenpox.
Congrats Grandma!

First of all, it sounds like she is a first time mother and that in itself can be stressful at times. I want to congradulate you on becoming a grandmother to this new little bundle of joy. How wonderful!!! About the vaccines, most of the major ones need to be taken however they really should not be given in the first six months if she is nervous. Most conventional doctors give shots right away, some even in the hospital. I am very much apposed to that with reason and research backing me. My doctor is a lot more naturalistic however has about 25 years of practice as a family practice pediatrician and he does not give ANY vaccines during the first six months because babies immune systems are really not totally equipped to fight it and keep it long term in their systems. In other words often the antibodies wear off by adulthood and most ppl. don't know that. I myself learned that a bit too late with the rubella vaccine. I also will tell you that if she is well researched on this contraversial issue she should air on the side of seeing a more natural doctor with a lot of experience. Vaccines DO NOT GO WITHOUT SIDE EFFECTS. I am not telling you to scare you or to scare your daughter but she should definitely stand up for her beliefs and not let the doctors push her around. She needs to find someone who she is on the same page with. It is not good for mothers to feel compelled to "lie" to their doctors or be pushed around by their doctors. There are enough of them out there to find one that she truly likes and feels good about what she is choosing for her baby. Good luck and if you have any further questions just drop me a line. I would be more than happy to help if I'm able to. CONGRATULATIONS!!!
