I'm Having Troubles

My husband and I have been trying to get pregnant for the last few months. I know it doesn't seem like a long time, but I don't understand why its taking so long. With our first child, it was like our first time without a condom that we got pregnant. Why can't it be like that again? Anyone else had this problem with their second child? Is there anything I can do to make it happen faster? I know I sound inpatient, but my husband goes to boot camp for the army soon and I kind of wanted to get pregnant before he left. Thank you all for your help.

What can I do next?

I went to webmd and did a ovulation calendar both times I wanted to get pregnant to find out what days were likely the best days. I know it isn't an exact science but it worked for us both times. (I wanted them 2 years and 4 months apart and they are just that plus 2 days).

Just remember the more you stress about it the less likely it will happen (just seems to be how it goes).

Good Luck!

My first 2 children were unplanned and it didn't seem like it took much to to pregnant with them (like 1 try). So when we were trying to have our 3 child, I was getting very frustrated as months went by. We had been trying for 10 months when I became pregnant, however I miscarried at 8wks. We again tried after waiting 2 months. I was looking at the ovulations kits and decided to try one. We purchased the clear blue easy fertility monitor and I got pregnant the second month we used it. I found out that I wasn't acually ovulation until day 17-18, unlike most books that say day 14. It is different for everyone.

I am now due next month with a baby girl....So it was money well spent for us. I would suggest checking out Ebay if you wanted to purchase one, as they are much cheaper than getting one in the store...

Good luck and keep us updated!!!

I agree with Kelly B. Go to Target or Walgreens and pick up some ovulation predictor sticks (7 or so in a box for $12ish). The sticks will tell you when you are going to ovulate, so you can time your intercourse accordingly. Many women ovulate much later in their cycles (I was on day 20) that most doctors and books will say.

Hi, I'm sort of in the same boat, except I'm (unofficially) trying for a 3rd. My first 2 just seemed to happen at the right time, but this time is tough! It's been over a year now.

Of course, I found out that I was having thyroid issues (basically it stopped working); I'm on medication but it seems to take awhile to get it all sorted out.

I'm going to have to check out that book (& relax). Good luck!

It helps to do all those things, but like someone else said, even with prime timing and conditions, your chance is like 20 %. It just goes to show how special it all really is! I tried for 5 months, and used ov. strips for the 4th and 5th months, and took my temp for the 5th, and even those don't guarantee it. If you want to buy these things DON'T do it at a store! They are about 3 times the price! Go online and Google cheap pregnancy tests, and you will find bulk dip strips(you pee in a cup and dip it). Some have combo packs. I just purchased 20 ov. strips and 5 preg strips for 11$. AND, they are more sensitive than most store products. I used one 5 days before my period last time! I know so many people who have done it all (inc. in vitro, etc.) for years, only to stop trying and than get pregnant! Unfortunately, as frustrating as it is, you really need to look at it like you have no control, and expect it to be a year at least, then you will be pleasantly surprised! Good Luck!

I would recommend the book "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" by Toni Weschler. It shows you how to track your cycles by taking your temperature every day and looking for other signs to know when you're most fertile. If you're particularly daring, she even explains how to increase your chances of getting a boy or a girl. You could also check out the website at tcoyf.com. Otherwise, don't sweat it. Sometimes it takes a while. I think the chance of getting pregnant on any cycle is only 20% or something, so the odds are not that you would get pregnant the first time you try every time.

Try Ovulex. Stress or pressure to get pregnant really doesn't help I know, but this product puts your body in optimal condition to become and maintain a pregnancy.

Sometimes a pregnancy can toss your homones out of wack. I don't think doctors will treat you for infertility unless you've been nailing your days each month for a year. Some will see you at 6 months. Maybe if you make a case about boot camp they'll see you sooner. They can check your hormone levels and maybe Clomid will get prescribed. Not sure.

We were in the same situation, but it was getting close to a year of TTC. I saw my OB and he suggested an HSG (Google it if unfamiliar). Although it is meant to find problems with the falopian tubes, it is quite often therapeutic, as our tubes can get clogged easily. My first cycle following the HSG I became pregnant and am due with another sweet baby girl in November. Also, I agree with the other post that this is all really in God's hands and things happen when they are suppose to, but why not help fate with a little technology?

H.,

Hello, I highly rec. the book (like another responder) Taking Charge of Your Fertility - here's a link:

http://www.amazon.com/Taking-Charge-Your-Fertility-Reprod...

We tried to get preg. for about 1-1/2 yrs. and nothing worked. One of my friends told me about the book and after reading it we were preg. within 3 months! I always thought I ovulated on Day 11 and it's really Day 18! We're now about to have our 2nd baby and I seriously credit the book with helping me understand my body and to know what's going on - my husband has really appreciated the knowlege, too.

So many of my friends have read the book and have also gotten pregnant - I think it's just finally understanding what's happening.

I would get the book, grab a glass of wine and relax - it will all happen for you!

Congrats. on your 2 yr. old son and best of luck to you!
:)

We've been trying for over a year as well. (Actually 2) I tracked everything very carefully for 1 year, using ovulation kits, tracking tempuratures, etc. We hit the 'window' it seems like every month. It's been very stressful, the counting, tracking, trying, waiting. I'm currently on Chlomid (which is a lower dose fertility medicine which forses an egg to drop) I'm hoping that this is going to work for us, because the only other options for us are way too expensive and I'm not willing to go on a higher dose fertility where multiple births are more of a risk. I want one...or even 2, but not 5 or 6. If this doesn't work...we're done. I feel for ya...this is very hard. I've read some good advise here though. I'd be willing to try that ovulex stuff, since it appears that I'm doing everything else. Good luck...I hope it happens quickly for you.
