I need ideas on Christmas gifts for teachers. With both my boys in school now, I am having a hard time trying to come up with creative gift ideas for their teachers. I want to give them something useful. Any ideas?? I have both teachers and aides that I want to give to.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you all so much for all the suggestions! I am going to go the gift card route this year. I have found out that two of the teachers like coffee, so Starbucks will be good for them. Thanks again!

As a teacher, I suggest gift cards! DO NOT buy bath stuff, stationary, cards, decor, or cookies or candy. They get so much of that. Trust me!

Hi D.,
Giftcards are fabulous...it's always wonderful to receive giftcards that I can use for my classroom. (or dinner with my hubby!)
I don't want to sound ungrateful, because all gifts we teachers receive are unnecessary and appreciated. :) But honestly, I have enough lotion and stationary to last me through my years in a retirement center (and I'm only 27!).
Honestly, I often receive beautiful letters from my students and those are cherished forever.
Good luck and I'm sure whatever you decide, your child's teacher will be thankful you appreciate her.

I have been a teacher for 18 years and have received everything from a homemade burrito to toiletries. First, I want to thank you for recognizing your children's teachers. Please know that a handwriten note or homemade card from your kids is greatly appreciated.

If you still want to buy a gift, don't spend a lot and get a gift card-a book store or teacher store is good. Don't forget Half Price Books if one is in your area.

Gifts cards are the best if you really want your gift to be useful. For example, I have received candy and I'm diabetic and perfumes/bath/body baskets and scents give me headaches.

Hi D.,

Speaking as a second grade teacher there are two types of useful gifts: one the teacher will use and two one that is useful in the classroom. Please note that teachers do not expect anything expensive and appreciate the thought or a nice thank you.

All time favorite was a letter from the student explaining why he liked me, school, and learning.

Teacher will use:
Favorites include: gift cards to my hair salon, gift cards to a local restaurant, gift cards to bookstore, ect... Gift cards were my favorite. ALso, gifts from Things Remembered are special. Flower basket for the holiday to decorate home.
Least Favorite: candles (I always got tons), bath products, and clothing
O.K. gift: Christmas tree ornaments

Useful in the classroom:
new books for the teacher to use in the classroom
Gift certificate to Holcombs/Teacher Corner
bin of new craft supplies including pipe cleaners, glue, ect...
Something small for teacher desk (new name plate)
Volunteer time to help out

Just a few thoughts!

Hi D.!! I am a teacher, and mommy too. I LOVE getting gift cards-especially to stores where the $ can benefit the kids who are giving it to me like Staples or Barnes and Noble. Even $5 gift cards can go a long way. Also, last year I got a coffee mug with a gift certificate for a cup of coffee from Starbucks-I thought that was cute!! Hope that helps. Have a great holiday.

D. this may sound cheap and lame but comes from a teacher.
A letter written by the student thanking them for being their teacher and saying something about what they have learned from them is the best gift they would ever receive.
They get bottles of perfume they can't stand, ornaments to fill several trees, what knots that clutter their home (that usually wind up at a yardsale for pennies of what you payed.
If you really want to purchase a gift buy a gift card to her/ his faavorite store, book store, or teacher supply store, find out the nearest video store and tape a gift card for a movie or two to a box of popcorn. A book for the classroom is also a great gift. Many classrooms never have enough books for silent reading time.
You could even canvas other parents and see if they would be willing to share the expense and make the gift that much more.
I sometimes made the gifts. I made lunch bags that were washable and insulated (big hit) also made tote bags with a one room school house on it just big enought to take papers and books home to grade after hours (also a big hit). They were made so sturdy even thou my kids are grown and gone are still being used.

Gift cards! Target, BN, Starbucks, Bath & Body Works, etc. You can rarely ever go wrong with them.

I've been a teacher for over ten years and these are my favorites. Personally, I do not like food (do you know what people like, dislike, and are allergic to?), body products or candles (again, do you know what scents they like or dislike), or trinkets/miniatures etc, but to each his/her own.

**I just read the response from the lady who comes in and does massages and spa services. Oh my word, that would be HEAVENLY! I can only imagine during my lunch break, instead of sitting in a dreary cafeteria eating the mystery meat, having someone come in and give me a massage or a manicure. That would be great!

Having had two teachers for parents, know that there are only so many ornments and other "creative" teacher-related items one can get - most of it ends up in file 13 or Goodwill. Get something you would appreciate getting 25 of....

For that reason, we give our teachers a $25 gift certif to a local restaurant so they can have an evening out with their husbands. I usually offer to babysit if they need it too so that's not an obstacle.

another suggestion: a subject related gift - digital weather station for a science teacher, a copy of teacher's favorite book for an english teacher.

Best suggestion: ask teacher what they need for their classroom and offer to buy it. Most teachers spend $2000 - $5000 per year of their own money on resources for their classrooms so anything you could offer would help.

I make up my own gift baskets. I buy packs of hot chocolate, soup, tins of latte, some chocolate or mints and include some disposable hot cups. I always seem to have baskets around from past gifts. Then just tie a pretty ribbon and you're set.

Hi D.:

It is nice that you want to give gifts to the teachers that they can use. I have these awesome gift albums that you can give to teachers, or really anyone, if you would like to check out my website. You order through this site, no money is exchanged through you and I, and it will be shipped to you based upon your ship date.

The price ranges from $25-$750. You select the gift album, they select the gift from that album. The albums usually (with the exception of holiday weeks) ship within 3-5 days. Very easy. If you order $75 or more, you get free shipping!

I sell BeautiControl, and I always give "stress baskets" to my kids' teachers, and go to the school and do a spa escape for them during lunch! They love it!! We pamper them for a half hour with spa treatments and a massage, etc.
Think of something you're good at, and put it to use, or email me and I would be glad to make a basket for you. I don't usually make baskets, but I could show you how.
I could also go do a spa for the teachers from you.
XOXOXO, B.

When my daughter was in preschool I started giving the teachers an ornament. Not any ornament though. I bought a fairly large one and I bought a thin tipped paint pen. I put Merry Christmas and the year with the pen pretty big down the front of the ornament. I then put all the names of the kids in her class on it. I have done it every year since. It is an inexpensive gift and it's something that might bring back a memory or two of that class when she puts it on the tree.

I had an idea this year --- I started making beautiful dishcloths - most people don't want to USE them cause they are so pretty - they look like a doily - they are all cotton and probably 40-50 different varieties of colors or color combinations. I thought I'd use one for each teacher - in school and in church. I just don't know which color to give to who.

I love the idea of getting the other mom's in the same class to go in on the gift card! I just might do that instead! Thanks for all the ideas everyone!

"Merry CHRISTmas!"

Since I recently became a Pampered Chef consultant, I'm giving my son's teachers the Tool Turn-About (#2171 $17)...But instead of putting kitchen tools, I'll be putting some pens and pencils. I found it useful when I wanted my son to organize his colored pencils and pens. For the coffee/tea drinking teacher, I'll give the Coffee & More Cup an put some coffee/tea bags and some cookies. www.pamperedchef.biz/letscookinstyle

As a former teacher my favorite gifts were always books or bookstore gift certificates. Then I would use the gift certificates to buy more books for my classroom to read with my students or have available to the kids to read during silent work time.

Coffee shop gift cards were also always appreciated :)

I JUST orderd off QVC for my daughters teachers. She's has a team of 3 teachers this year, all woman so Philosphy had these great smelling shower gels, I got 3 16 oz. bottles in apple cider, hot chocolate, and vanilla cookie for $35, that included shipping. I've also given Mrs. Prindibles apples from QVC those are the big apples dipped in different things like m&m's, nuts, etc....I've also seen apples like that sold at the grocery store. A gift cert. to Borders is always good, they can buy alot of different things there. We were thinking before I ordered these shower gels of giving them 2 movie passes each.

That's all I can think of right now. Hope that helped!

This year I had my son paint wood snow flakes and put glitter on them for his teachers and grandparents! It's a simple thing, and everyone loves the home made gift! :) Besides, the cut out wood pieces are 25 cents at Micheals. In past years for teachers we have colored in santas, made small ordiements and gave framed pictures of the person we were giving the gift to and my son together. I put his hand print on a piece of card stock for another holiday and wrote a little poem next to it about being a caring care giver and teacher to help him along the road of life, learning and development. (I don't really remember. Found it online)
I hope some of this gives you some ideas! Best wishes
